Zed Head Posted December 20, 2023 Share #1 Posted December 20, 2023 Anybody out there know why spell check would stop working on the site? Seems to have happened right after a Windows update. It's checked as on in Settings but doesn't work on any forum type web sites. Still works in Outlook email though.
Zed Head Posted December 20, 2023 Author Share #2 Posted December 20, 2023 Tseting in Firefox. Looks like a Chrome broswer problem. Misspellings are highlighted here.
kickstand80 Posted December 21, 2023 Share #3 Posted December 21, 2023 I noticed that when you go to the XenonZcar.com site for the FSM, everything works until you try to open a chapter in one of the manuals. The chapter is blank when using Chrome but works normal in Firefox. The chapters also fail to open with Edge. I posted this on the ZCar.com site and had some replies. Zed Head Posted December 21, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted December 21, 2023 It's been a long time since I've thought about changing browsers. The Google folks are probably getting complacent. Now I have both open at the same time. Firefox for forum writing stuff, Chrome mainly because the Bookmark import feature sucks across all browsers. If I could import Bookmarks in the same format I have them saved on Chrome I'd probably just switch. I'm in Firefox and just corrected two misspelled words, make that three, that were highlighted. Yay Firefox. Seems to have better inherent ad-blocking too.
siteunseen Posted December 21, 2023 Share #5 Posted December 21, 2023 Google has gone to crap recently. All the ads and pop-ups they used to block aren't blocked on my end anymore. I may try Fire Fox soon. The internet has gotten worse for me. I have better user end through my smartphone. Sad days, unfortunately for EVERYTHING. The Unabomber was right.
Patcon Posted December 22, 2023 Share #6 Posted December 22, 2023 I have been using fire fox and Thunderbird for a long time now. Maybe 5-10 years. I avoid Google if I can...

No superb education needed just a good 9 volt battery.
Patcon Posted December 23, 2023 Share #9 Posted December 23, 2023 On the flip side, it's amazing how much my spelling skills and mapping skills have changed in just a few years!

psdenno Posted December 24, 2023 Share #11 Posted December 24, 2023 Regarding the Google Chrome browser, I use a Mac and seldom use Chrome. So for grins, I opened Chrome, logged into this site, opened a reply window, and started typing every word incorrectly. Every incorrectly spelled word was underlined in red. So, maybe it is a Windows update issue as mentioned earlier. As a further check, I contacted my son who is a computer engineer in Google's Los Angeles office and attached a link to this message thread. His response is below. BTW, Merry Christmas to all! "Hard to say for sure but if I had to hazard a guess: either the Windows update screwed things up or they unchecked the Chrome "check spelling" option (it's kinda easy to toggle by accident if you right click on a text box)."
