Posted April 7, 2024Apr 7 comment_663745 Hello, This is probably a stupid question, but how is the rear license plate bracket supposed to attach to the body? It looks like the only mounting points are the 2 standoffs on the bottom, but they are just through holes and not threaded. I was surprised to see they weren't threaded. I bought the car in pieces so I never saw how it was attached. April 7, 2024Apr 7 comment_663748 Not 100%, but typically there are hook-like devices to hold one side and the screws lock it in so that it can't come out of the hooks. Not sure what exactly you're trying to fit. But here are some things that look like they might be involved. Modified your picture. I went to BAT to try to find an example and found that people are doing all kinds of different things. Might be worth browsing aorund to get some ideas. Many people just use the four screw holes, apparently. Naked plate. https://bringatrailer.com/datsun/280z/?q=280z Some only have two holes and the bottom hooks. April 7, 2024Apr 7 comment_663760 Yeah my 240 has the bottom "J" looking holders but 2 screws up top. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/68890-attaching-rear-license-plate-bracket/#findComment-663760 Share on other sites
April 7, 2024Apr 7 comment_663761 They're regular tag hold down screws. I found a picture that shows I used the carded "Help" stuff from a chain store, they're plastic. April 7, 2024Apr 7 Author comment_663763 Thanks guys. My question isn't how the license plate attaches, but how the bracket attaches to the body. April 7, 2024Apr 7 comment_663764 You mean "are there are more than the three screws across the top edge?". Here's a 240Z. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/68890-attaching-rear-license-plate-bracket/#findComment-663764 Share on other sites

The middle tag part slides into the other panels and is held in place by the small rivets like Yarb referenced. April 7, 2024Apr 7 Author comment_663768 Thanks everyone. I should have clarified it's a 280z. I don't believe there are any screws along the top edge. I had recently come to the conclusion it must be push pins, thanks Yarb. I'm surprised that the only attachment points are 2 small push pins. I'll see what I have and if I need 2, I'll send you a message Yarb. It's held in place on both sides by the tail light surrounds and also by the license plate. If everything else is in place, it's kinda stuck there...
