AC compressor 280z rebuild

Recommended Posts

I have the original AC compressor and it looks like in a decent shape. Is there a reliable place where these can be rebuilt? I am planning to grab some R12 from a guy locally and use that. or do u guys recommend putting R132? also i would need condensor and receiver drier. Where to get those? Also is it a DIY job to remove the compressor etc. and put it back? Would really appreciate any guidance. My heater works fine. The 2nd owner had the AC switch wire near heater control pulled off to keep the compressor disenageged.

You won't find a drop in condenser or drier. I haven't try to purchase either, so I cannot give you guidance.

R12 is difficult to obtain since it was phased out over 30 years ago. It's probably smarter just to go with an R134a system while you're at it. Unfortunately I don't know a way to test the expansion valve in the existing evaporator. The expansion valve is another component that can fail and has no ready replacement.

Switch it over to 134a and a Sanden (or similar)compressor.  Check out Auto AC Solutions out of Texas.  Call him, he's a great guy.  877-542-8192.  He sells complete kits but you can also purchase individual parts .  Web site is autoacsolutions.com. I bought a complete HVAC system from him for my 73 240Z.  It was a lot of work installing it but it works great.  Every time I called with questions; he was very helpful. You would probably have a much easier time since your car already has AC.  Most the AC parts are universal (compressor, condenser, filter/drier, etc.).  You may have to change hose end fittings or use  adapters if you're going from R12 to 134A.  If you try to stay with R12 expect to pay $$$$$, if you can find any.
