Uh, does that S30 have a Lycoming? 😲

That particular car has an S20. There's a pump between the 100 litre main fuel tank and a sub tank, then another pump between the sub tank and the engine.

Won't win any prizes for photographic excellence, but here's an E4100 NILES early-type Fog Lamp Switch in its correct location on one of my other cars:E4100 NILES Fog Lamp Switch.jpg

Here's the latest wiring diagram. I changed the wire color leading to the rear tail light assembly. At the hazard switch and the combination switch, the rear brakes/turns use a W/B and W/R pair, but somewhere inside the harness, they change to G/B and G/R pair by the time they get to the rear of the car.

I also changed the portrayal of the rear light assemblies to show the bulbs inside. Note that in later 240's they changed one of the dual filament lamps in the back to a single filament. The car I'm working on is mid 1970 and I've got two dual filament bulbs on each side in the rear.

Funny you should mention that... I haven't dug deep into the details yer, but I got this going on here. Thoughts?

I got curious about the "F" knob when I saw this and looked around my favorite place, BaT, to see what was "supposed" to be there.  But I only looked at 70's and 71's.  Then this new car came up , a 73, and it has a "cigar lighter" there.  I looked in the Owners Manuals and see the drawing of the spot with no label in 71 and the labeled spot in 73.  Kind of looks like Nissan was planning to put a lighter there but didn't get it done until 72 or 73.

I just got the 73 Owners Manual from Xenonzcar.  That site is still alive.

That's a rather bizarre take. By implication, you therefore think that the original position of the cigar lighter - as seen on the cars at launch - right next to the ashtray was some kind of compromise? That they were just itching to put it up above the hazard warning switch in '69 and even reserved a space for it there, but just couldn't get it done for a couple more years...? Have you been sneaking a peek through the patent Beck-O-Scope?

Nope. The reserved position for the optional E4100 Fog Lamp switch was above the Hazard Warning lamp switch and the wiring was in the dash harness behind it, ready and waiting.

There's an empty hole in 1971, then there's a Nissan factory labeled cigar lighter in 1973 in the exact same spot.  About as far from bizarre as a logical person could get, I think.  It would have made more sense if there was an optional cigar lighter.  Maybe there is, the wiring is probably the same as for the fog lamps.

They should have put that information in the Owners Manual, instead of just showing an empty hole.  Beside that, do you have any documentation describing the optional fog lamp switch?  And the fog lamps, which, of course, would need installation also.  That would add a lot to the discussion.  Much more interesting than a single comment in a forum.  The details and official documentation.

They could have gussied up the hole a bit.  At least by 73 they had a molded-in spot for the four-way sticker.

Here's a different guy that says the fog lamp option was Japan market only.  So if that's correct then Nissan was basically cutting costs by not producing non-Japan market dashes.  They just left the spot open with no option for non-Japan market customers to fill it with anything.  Unless they got creative, with something like an F knob.

Just to add to the discussion, here are a couple instrument panel pics from a 1970 JDM Fairlady Z brochure that I have.

@HS30-H, Alan are you able to translate item 17. I'm guessing "optional fog light switch" 🙂
