Posted September 8, 2024Sep 8 comment_669069 Hi Everyone, I have a 1977 280Z....just purchased new door lock cylinders and can't find the plastic clips for the 77-78 only. Its a small squarish looking thing. I have one in one door but have been searching to find another for the other door. If any ideas are out there let me know. Maybe you could make one out of a piece of plastic? I got no idea how it looks like.. I don;t have one as the 280z was never on the market in europe.. September 14, 2024Sep 14 Author comment_669273 This what the clips look like and I kind of have some to scale in there. The hole on top is really a rectangular slit and its close to twelve MM. September 14, 2024Sep 14 comment_669285 They look like car license plate mounts. You can find them at Runnings or ACE in the hardware section in pull out boxes. Probably any auto parts store too. We have an Auto Value store here and they have a stockpile of the plastic parts. September 14, 2024Sep 14 comment_669288 Those are not related to the lock or door mechanism. As noted they are meant to accept a screw for something. Look a bit small for the M6 bolts the license plate bolts need. The bent arm on the back of the lock cylinder shown “used” to have a little rubber sleeve on the necked down area. Bit of noise abatement. Not needed, you could put a short bit of very small heat shrink on there if you like. September 15, 2024Sep 15 comment_669292 I seem to remember those small plastic squares were used on a number of locations for a ZX. Side markers, dash trim, etc. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/69100-looking-for-cylinder-door-clips/#findComment-669292 Share on other sites
September 15, 2024Sep 15 Author comment_669293 (Sorry) The photos are not that good.......they do have a rectangular cut or hole in the top. I saw a new one in a book for 280Z's 1977-78 and it is in it but have not been able find that book again with the information in it. From the bottom you can see the rectangular cut in it better. I found a Teflon wall anchor that is so close to the original that I am slowly modifying it to replace that clip and the one that is missing. All these clips do is take the slop or play out of the door locking cylinder arm so the door lock goes up and down smoothly.
