The original E41 design WAS a two-part system. Just look in the factory parts manuals.

The spongey rubber part was the 'Weatherstrip' and the U-shaped 'Welt' clipped over one side of it, sandwiching it onto the body seam. Most people don't notice because they can weld themselves together fairly well over time. The two component parts are also on different pages in the factory literature. Many think that the 76801-E4100 RH and 76802-E4100 LH show a one-piece system, but they are missing that the 76920-E4101 Welt A and 76921-E4101 Welt B parts are shown in a separate diagram for the body side.

With all of the proprietary off-the-shelf/universal seals the main problem in my experience is that the Weatherstrip part is the wrong shape and/or made from a material which does not compress anywhere near as easily as the original. In my experience this is worst at the front vertical edge of the door where the seal is being asked to compress more than anywhere else, and with nowhere to go. The original Weatherstrip is also a 'flap' cross-section rather than a 'bulb'.

The new S30 World versions are the closest to the originals I have seen.

Okay then it was two piece.... Well I solved that problem with mine, it closes as easy as a mercedes benz, so no problems with that. The problem with most immitation seals is that today's rubber that is used is to stiff for compression.

I just received my door seal kit from S30 World and it's even better than I was expecting. Great attention to detail. I will be using these to replace the aftermarket one piece seals that are on my early 1970, #957. Hopefully this will make it a little easier to close the doors.

Here are a few pics for a visual comparison, of the new S30 product and the 55 year old seals removed from my July/70 car, #6521. S30 World seals on the left and my old stuff on the right.

You receive those from the Netherlands?  They look original.. I got in the late 90's a orig. set from nissan and they are exactly the same.. now on my 240z for 0ver 25 years! Still working perfect. Nice to now where i can get a new set if necessary, CLOSE to home! 😀

Yes, I got them from S30.world in the Netherlands. Strangely, the day after I placed the order I got a tracking notification from PostNL stating that "my order from A2toys was heading my way". I googled "A2toys" and found this, they are a reseller of lego in the Netherlands.

https://www.a2toys.nl/

It was the correct item and tracking info, I wonder if S30.world and A2toys are affiliated?

If you are on Facebook, you can send a message to their page to find out.

They defiantly are related. I received the same email notification.  They warned me to disregard the expected delivery date.  They said the A2Toys delivery date was always too optimistic.

BTW, I bought two sets.  I haven't installed them yet but they were much better than I expected.  The weatherstrip and the welt strip both looked factory.  The aftermarket is far too thick.

I agree they look factory. I won't be installing them for a few months when the weather is warmer. In the mean time I'm storing them in  a larger box, making sure the 90 degree butt joint is opened up.

So how the doors shut with those seals ? Be honest, do you need to slam, or a modest slam, or easy close like modern doors ?

In a few months when I remove my aftermarket seals and install my new S30.World set, I will post the results and include videos showing the closing effort for before and after.  Fingers crossed that there will be a big improvement.
