November 5, 2024Nov 5 Author comment_671079 I looked at Rockauto and they had strange results. They show Raybestos available for L&R for 86 and 87 with a one day delay. The 1988, they only show a right rear available. If I have to go down this road, I can but I have found many times when I try to place the order they are not actually available. I'll play it by ear. November 6, 2024Nov 6 comment_671082 @Patcon Try giving Napa a call or go on line and check out their availability. You might be surprised . November 6, 2024Nov 6 Author comment_671084 I'm gonna try to rebuild this caliper first before I try to source replacements. I ordered a brake system pressure gauge from Amazon. It comes with multiple bleed screw adapters. Should be interesting... November 6, 2024Nov 6 comment_671085 Did you try loosening up the flare nut on the back of the caliper and seeing if that would relax the caliper grab? Rebuilding that style of caliper is usually a pita. Different car, but probably similar in concept. Complex internal guts in the rear pistons: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/69150-240sx-versus-maxima-rear-caliper/?&page=2#findComment-671085 Share on other sites
November 7, 2024Nov 7 Author comment_671113 When I originally messed with the caliper, I did crack the bleeder but no fluid came out. That's why I pulled it off the car. Yes, a similar style of caliper, very complicated inside! I had a time figuring out how to get it apart. That seal on the end of that part inside the piston can make it difficult to pull out. There are really no Youtube videos about rebuilding this type of integral parking brake caliper available online. So I'm feeling my way along. I do have rebuild kits. I may have the rears powder coated while I'm redoing them. I assume I need to do that while they are all apart. November 9, 2024Nov 9 Author comment_671238 So here is the 90-94 240sx caliper beside the maxima caliper (86-87 I believe) Offset to the rotor is different. Bolt spacing appears to be the same. Parking brake cable comes off at a different angle, which probably works better for fitment and clearnace. Bleed port at a slightly different angle and the back of the Maxima is canted at an angle where the 240sx caliper appears more square Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/69150-240sx-versus-maxima-rear-caliper/?&page=2#findComment-671238 Share on other sites
November 9, 2024Nov 9 comment_671241 There are SO many great brake kits out there now, I would no longer deal with the Maxima/240sx caliper options. My experience with buying Rockauto calipers was so disappointing that I said never again. Ebrake cable attaching is a nightmare at best. The BEST experience with rear disk brake kits lately is with DPRacing, though admittedly for 510. Quality of brackets, outstanding. Quality of Ebrake adaption cable etc was nothing short of astoundingly good. They list kits for Z and 510 with plenty of options. They were all based on separate brake and ebrake calipers, all from Wilwood. Just my two cents. This is some examples. They feature kits for small wheels too, front and rear. I think I have the 401-9520 rear kit for 13” wheels. They do fit 14” ZX alloys, but for 13, would need aftermarket open barrel wheels, but they would fit Edited November 9, 2024Nov 9 by zKars Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/69150-240sx-versus-maxima-rear-caliper/?&page=2#findComment-671241 Share on other sites
November 9, 2024Nov 9 Author comment_671243 It's unfortunate that internet searches don't bring some of these options up. I assume because it has a ".CO" domain it doesn't come up in my searches. It's not like we can't ship anything worldwide in a few days!!!
