1973 240z center console fog light switch?

I’m looking for photographs (and a part number) for the fog light switch and trim bezel that mount on the center console in 1973 240Zs. It replaces the Z trim plate that is welded to the plastic just in front of the ash tray and to the right of the choke lever.

I’ve never seen a picture of one of these, but I know that’s where it goes because it is referenced in the description of the trim plate on the Motorsport site.

There are also provisions for screws to attach a switch and a hole in the console  where the switch would pass through.

Sorry for the blur.

I don’t know if the trim plate that’s welded to the console would have been cut to make the switch fit, or if they removed it entirely and replaced it with something else. The trim plate has two impressions that imply space for two switches, but the underside of the console only looks like it can take one. Maybe it was a single unit with two switches.

The fog light switch depicted in the literature is different from the illuminated yellow rear defroster switch for this car. It’s also different from the black ones that went in the earlier cars with two choke levers. This switch has the mounting tabs for the screws horizontally positioned like one version of the yellow defroster switch, but with no illumination.

I’d love to get my hands on the correct fog switch, but I’m guessing they’re unobtainium these days. If I can’t I’ll try repurposing a defroster switch.

Edit, Oops. Apologies l see now that you are looking for a fog lights switch.

When I look at the info on Motosport Autos website it mentions that the plate covers an opening for a switch to control fog lights or parking lights in other markets. Where do you see that it is related to the rear window defrost switch? The defrost switch is ahead of the shifter on a '73.

I’ve asked this question on two other forums and people keep telling me it’s for the defroster and not a fog light switch, thinking that I’m asking about the 70-71 cars. Those photos are to illustrate how the defroster switches differ from the illustration.

Im also assuming it’s a Niles switch like most of the rest of them. I haven’t seen any Niles rocker switches for other cars, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s it was in something else, too.

Here's some data from the Japanese Nissan Parts Catalogue ( Publication Number C-236 ) from 1972 which covers both the "early" and "late" types and references their changeover period.

The picture attached shows the drawing of the two types of Fog Lamp Switch.

Part no. 9 is the *25370-E4100 "SWITCH COMP. - fog lamp"

Part no. 10 is the *25370-E8700 "SWITCH COMP. - fog lamp"

Part no. 9 is the "early" type and no. 10 is the "late" type.

When the Japanese market got the chance to buy HS30 series L24-equipped cars ( October 1971 ) in addition to what they previously had, the factory changed over to the "later" type switch. This was apparently because the console changed, and the console changed because the "B" type transmission was phased in. All the Japanese Home-market HS30-series cars got the "B" type box from October 1971. The corresponding hole in the sheetmetal around the shift lever was different, thus the console design was changed.

Looks like the "early" switch was dash-mounted and the "late" switch was console mounted.

Good luck,

Alan T.

25370-E8700

But nobody (even Alan) seems to have a photo of it.

Indeed. I've been on a steady decline in quality since 2002...

The E8700 Console-mounted Fog Lamp Switch was a rarely-specced showroom option part in Japan, and only available for a relatively short period (roughly early October 1971 through late August 1973) after which the design changed completely. I see the part number quoted also on the relevant R-DRIVE Export factory parts list, but the only illustration is the (equally rare) earlier type dash-mounted E4100 NILES two pin 'flip' type fog switch. There is not even a drawing of the E8700 type.

The March 1974 update of the R-DRIVE Export factory parts list gives the following part numbers:

*25370-E4100 COMP-SWITCH FOG LAMP - up to 08-71 (Note: this is the dash-mounted NILES two pin 'flip' switch).

*25370-E8700 COMP-SWITCH FOG LAMP - from 09-71  (Note: This is the console-mounted Droid you are looking for...).
*25370-E8701 COMP-SWITCH FOG LAMP - from 07-73 up to 08-73 (Note: The fog lamp switch that burns twice as bright burns out a month later...).

*25370-N3400 COMP-SWITCH FOG LAMP - from 08-73 (Note: This is not the Droid you are looking for...).

To be honest I've never really sought out an E8700 type switch as I never needed one, but it seems that they are rather elusive. I've got several of the equally elusive E4100 type but I don't recall even seeing a photo of the E8700 type in Japanese market factory literature. The only pictorial reference I have is the factory parts list drawing I posted in the 2002 thread.

So, can't help, not won't help.

That's a Heated Rear Window switch and double Parking Lamp combination switch set for the ('early') A-type transmission consoles.

Like this: 270KK team Console-1.jpg

Not what he's looking for, unfortunately.

Are "parking lamps" what we'd call fog lights? Or something else?
