260DET Posted July 11, 2003 Share #1 Posted July 11, 2003 Anyone had experience putting a lot of torque through a Supra gearbox eg big V8 or turbo? How do they hold up? Is there anything stronger thats better, readily available and will fit?

trs Posted July 11, 2003 Share #3 Posted July 11, 2003 depends which supra box you are talking about. No personal experience with them, but many high power supras (talking 600hp+) keep the stock r154 box and they are all quite up to the task. Even the earlier generation supra trannies are quite strong.Good luck finding one for cheap though.have a search on performanceforums.com about r154 boxes... plenty of info there. zed240au Posted July 11, 2003 Share #4 Posted July 11, 2003 The supra boxes may not be cheap by 6 cylinder standards but they are a bargin compared to v8 manual boxes Im told there are different models the turbo box being the strongest but as i said before my old celica steel case has lasted 10 years with a mild v8Mick
