Posted July 14, 200321 yr comment_43918 It's a 11/71 Z with the original 4 speed. Very difficult to get into reverse with the engine running (grinds) but goes in fine with it off. Goes in once in awhile. Down shifting into the forward gears is no problem although going into 1 isn't always smooth. I want to keep the car a 4 speed. Rebuild this one? Get a junkyard special and hope for the best? Future problems with other gears as the problem worsens? Slave cylinder? Fluid level o.k.In the Portland, OR area is there a shop that will do a good rebuild on this tranny? Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/7014-transmission-woes/ Share on other sites
July 15, 200321 yr comment_44024 Sounds like your clutch is going out. I would have it checked out before you damage the tranny and HAVE to have it rebuilt. Good luck!ROOPZ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/7014-transmission-woes/#findComment-44024 Share on other sites
July 16, 200321 yr comment_44089 Don't know about the 4 speed but if reverse is knocked around on a 5 speed too much, the small idler gear may become burred resulting in it jamming in reverse, and/or, being difficult to get into reverse.
