Those engines push our loads of torque and I guess that your drivetrain would get a hammering.

A big 'ol strong diff would be required and more over you'd have to have huge budget to put in rear tyres. Not forgetting the brake upgrade required..$$$$$

It sure would be an interesting swap...brave man to drive that in such a light weight shell. a real 911 eater....devourer!

I for one wish Nissan had brought this car to the US, it would have sold out in no time. I'd rather spend the money to have one of the Skylines long before I'd spend a cent on the 350. This is IMO one of the biggest mistakes Nissan has made since they discontinued the 300ZX here in the States!

I have always wondered why Nissan didn't bring the Skyline to the US, i've always heard good things about them and 2Many is right they look way better than the 350. Perhaps in the future i will look to a Skyline engine for my HP goals.

When they came into NZ and Aussie, they killed the touring car scene with being the 1st 4wd. It was amazing to watch the starts as the V8's tried to get power down and the GTR's would have two wheels on the infield and still got to the first bend with 10metres advantage. Next year they made them add weight so the others could be on par, then the Ford and Holden (GM) boys all got together to change the rules cause the just couldn't compete. So the touring car scene in Aussie is now V8's only..chickens aren't they.

GTR's were only available in the UK as a "Grey Import" for years, I think last year they were available at specialist dealers here for the first time.

As far as I know GTR's were available in Asia and NZ and Aussie only...lucky us.

  • 1 year later...

Nisson started production of the Skyline in 1968 (I think) it was imported into the USA in '69 for one year. It came equiped with a 2000cc dule ohc cross flow head with three Hatachi twin draft carbs (copies of Delortos) and tube headers. Also standered equipment was a five speed, Posi, Full cage,Bolt down seats, full Harness restraints, and plenty of power.

The Z was cheeper by about $2000.00 so it sold better. The car is still being built in Japan and is now 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steer, anti lock ect and turbo charged.

The R380 engin was also sold in the DOM (Japan) Z432 in 1969-1975 or 76(the books that I have are in Japanise and I do not read it so it is hard for me to get all the information. but I wish that the Skyline were imported to the US also. At least I would like to find one of the motors.

Bart, that's somewhat correct, but the actual Skyline marque started way before then!

The first Skyline was a Prince Skyline in 1957, and it looked more like a miniature Chevy than anything else.

I'm not sure if the KPGC10 Skyline had a full roll cage as standard though, but I couldn't say. I certainly didn't think it was imported to America though!

Maybe someone in the know can confirm this???

How have some of you never heard of an Nissan Skyline!

RB26DETT.... 2.6L inline 6... DOHC... Twin Turbo....

297HP AWD !!!!!!!!!!

It's a Japanese legend, that costs almost $90,000 to legally import into the U.S!!

Lucky the U.S. will sell them in 2005... no need to fear.

Daniel... I absolutly hate you LOL...

Ever seen teh Fast and Furious? There was a yellow one in the first one, and on 2 Fast 2 Furious it was the main Silver car in the beginning.

I don't get it.. .how the.... what the.... :dead:

One reason Nissan couldn't bring the Skyline is that the steering column gets in the way of the twin turbos. I also heard that they did not want to crach test and bring it up to US safety standards.

NO!!!! Skyline's are Right Hand Drive... but that doesn't get in the way.. wtf.

Skylines are illegal in the U.S. because of emissions, the speedometer reading KmPH instead of MPH and because of crash ratings... that's it...
