easyflyer Posted July 23, 2003 Share #1 Posted July 23, 2003 We pull the release and the hood goes up part way but it doesnot spring up far enuf for us to get a hand under and push the latch up to open it. We have tried pulling the release cord WHILEsomeone else tries to pull up on the hood and push the open latch. NOthing works. What to do?P.S. It has been cranky for a while - it would fail to close eventho it seemed it had closed, and then it would pop open while we were driving. To prevent this we would (my wife especially)slam the hood down real hard - she admits it. Thanks!
beandip Posted July 23, 2003 Share #2 Posted July 23, 2003 the alternative is to reach in from the front and loosen the hinge bolts and have some one lift the hood some from the front and see if you cas free it . When you do get it open adjust the striker and latch assembly properly.:classic: It's a good idea to attach a 2nd cable to the latch release and tuck it through the firewall so you can release the hood in the event that the hood release cable parted. just get a piece from Home Depot. :classic:
easyflyer Posted July 30, 2003 Author Share #3 Posted July 30, 2003 Now I'm looking for a new hood release assembly. The body man has the old one out and we can install a new one. Nissan may or may not have one, but it's a little pricey if they do. Any ideas? We need the whole thing - cable and all.THanks!
Daniel Posted July 30, 2003 Share #4 Posted July 30, 2003 When the cars were new and would break a cable the shop would put the car on a lift.Get a lot of socket extentions.Go from the bottom and remove the screws that hold the latch to the hood.
