I have installed a later style vented bonnet on my 240z because I didn't want any problems with vapour lock.

I wasn't sure from the start with it and now I think I prefer the bonnet without them totally.

The one I had before had custom vents that were alot more period suited much like e-type jag ones that bonnet was driven into.

So I just wanna know what your opinions on them is as I'm considering changing back to non-vented despite the money factor.

Also anyone got a good condition one in the Melbourne area without bog??? :ermm:

For me it has to be non vented (I am keeping both to keep my options open) but at this stage the non vented just looks cleaner, a few stamped in vents might look ok (like the ones out of a school locker/e type)

Ten years ago a fluted bonnet was the hottest mod you could put on a zed everybody wanted one, but I think now enthusiasts go for a more sleeker original body.

Bonnets are probably the worst panel on the car to restore. I had a rust free straight one and decided to strip it back to bare metal :bunny: it took three times as much speed filing, priming, shadow coating as any other panel and it was perfect to begin with.

Yeah as you say 10 years ago vents where hot the guy i got some parts off in Nsw wanted me to put some in right or wrong but i resisted ended up fixing up on of the average bonnets and cutting the hole in it for the bug catcher the panel beater was not happy he told me he wont touch the bonnet with hte hole the first time but when i said i wanted the hole in it he weakened

Must say the hole does let it all run cooler one plus

As u can see (just).

I have a vented bonnet on my 240Z, but it's an aftermarket one & the hinge mouting tabs need some re-work to make it fit properly

I bought it as I figured that the radiant heat from a turbo might like to escape the engine bay!!!

I have 2 original 240Z bonnets & 1 FRP bonnet. I plan on buying a genuine vented bonnet shortly & painting it satin-black. If the part is NLA I'll just re-spray one of the non-vented ones instead.

The paint on the original bonnet survived the heat of a high-mount T04 so everything should be ok with a T3 in a near-OEM mounting position.

Can always leave your bonnet slightly open LOL like those little ricer boys :)

I hear you can buy OEM Bonnets still but there around $600 AUD I've been thinking of this more and more lately.

However it's not the most important part to be fixed just yet :)

A few years back I was driving to work in the Z & thought to myself "damn the front of the car is all over the place".

Got there & closed the bonnet....ROFL ROFL

I priced a new vented bonnet just yesterday - ~$700 AUD ex-japan.

I'm ordering one next pay....
