A long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away) I purchased a set of window & door seals from Performance Specalties.

Since then I understand that they've greatly improved the kit.

My main concern is the door seals. I've heard that the later-model door-seals have the metal clip part molded together with the rubber seal. The kit I have requires me to glue in the rubber piece and then snap the metal trim on top of it. WHAT A PAIN!

Has anyone purchased a kit from Performance Specialties lately for an early-model Z ? Ie: 70 to 72 240z? And, does this kit come with the metal clip molded to the rubber seal?

I understand that many shops are reselling the kits from PS, so, they might all be the same. I even hear that Nissan is selling the PS seals as their own now...

Anyway, if you have made this purchase lately... speak up!! I'm about to make the purchase. But, I want the better seals.

I prefer the original style window door seals. Mine has the later style with the rubber bonded to the metal clip part, and the rubber can come away from the metal, also there are joins at the top. I remember the old style being one piece, all the way round.

the door rubbers i used where just a universal door rubber come with the plastic coated metal to clip over the joint on car and the rubber seal glued onto it in one piece pretty sure than still do it that way here lot of all holdens and old jap cars use same rubbers just differnt thickness i used the thinner rubbers on bottom ahalf of door and thicker up over the glass section to get a real tight seal works a treat

The new ones i bought from nissan for my old 240z 10 years ago started at the bottom front of the door scuff guard thing and went all the way around up the body and back down to the other side of the scuff guard. The ones on my new 240z are the newer style that you were talking about and are in 2 pieces. The 90 degree bend at the corner of the roof and rear window is where the join is.

The old ones were moulded in the 90 degree bend, no join.

I got mine from MSA. I got them to beat VB's price. And MSA only lists one

kit for '70 thru '78 Z's. They all fit the same. It even comes in the same

packages from Precision. Don't forget to mention you're ZCCA membership...

My kit was mfg'd by (for?) Precision Replacement Parts; purchased from Classic Datsun Motorsports. I haven't installed yet, as my car is still pre-paint.

If I recall, Les at Classic stated that the kits that are available now (whether his, VicBrit's, or Motorsports') all fit and seal quite well in the late 260's and 280's.

240's and early 260's require some extra effort with all of the kits that are currently available.

Do the later 260z and 280z door seals fit the 240z? They are better design.

Both MSA and Vic Brit sell the Precision Replacement Parts weatherseal kit. I haven't heard of another company that manufactures a kit for our 1st Gen Z's

Regarding Nissan selling the Precision kit as their own, I'm not sure about that unless they started doing so very recently. But last October, I bought an OEM set of door seals from Courtesy in TX, and they are the original style "soft" seals ( in Nissan bags w/ P/N) that require the separate plastic/metal channel. They were significantly more expensive than Precision seals priced through the other sources mentioned above.

I wasn't aware (and really still don't know why) there would be any difference in the seal kits from the earliest 240's through 78 280's.

The areas being sealed (windows, doors, etc) were identical on all early Z's....I thought. Perhaps some flanges or lips or something else that is not visible were changed.
