Annoying resonance or droning!

The problem is annoying resonance from 2000 to 2500 revs. I have an l26 with headers, 2.25 pipe, hotdog with turboflow muffler. It's been trial and error starting with replacing the hotdog with a smaller one. This helped but it was still a little loud. I then replaced the big ricer chrome "straight through" rear resonator with a turboflow muffler. Much better. Still sounds great at idle. I expected my torque range to drop a little but I was pleasantly surprised by how much more pick up i got from 2000 rpm to 4000rpm. Now the only problem is the resonance I am getting at the 2000-2500 range. Is there a way of getting rid of the droning without further changing my exhaust? Can headers also cause any noticable resonance because i've seen them wrapped on some cars? Might sound silly but if the piping up forward was futher braced by rubber "links" would it reduce it or is the issue more the frequency of the sound inside the pipe?

Wrapping is to reduce heat radiation.

The most success I have had with noise reduction on a sports exhaust is to use centre offset mufflers. These are still straight through and flow well, but the entry is in the centre of the oval casing and the exit is offset to one side (or vice versa) meaning the muffler had greater internal surface area to absorb noise.

Playing with resonators did nothing for me when I was trying to pass an EPA test.

In my car I am hoping there is room under the Z for a mid muffler like this:

As at all of 23yo, I am too old for the loud droning exhausts these kids like today LOL

i put a hot dog on my car, and it was all quiet and nice, cept for at high RPMs,

you heard it sulio anyway, and you know the differance,

its basically you want it to sound good but not with the droning, only way to do that is to scracrifice the good sound for a ok sound.... get a largish hot dog... and u'll be able to talk to the passanger when your on the freeway....

my setup was originally...

6-2-1 extractors, 2 1/4inch exhaust with a 2 1/4 inch sports muffler, was extremely loud, couldn't talk to the passanger when foot was on the peddle...

i put a largish hotdog in the middle near the gearbox, and was quieter, and could talk to the passanger

I am running a H&M competition header into a 2.5 inch pipe, 14 inch hotdog in the tunnel under the rear of the box, 2.5 into rear muffler, set up like drunkenmaster stated in the factory position.

I had to change out the rear muffler twelve months ago due to external hole. the first new muffler on at the rear was not driveable through the reasonance range stated. Straight back to the shop fitted a diffrent brand with the same external features, perfect could not get close to the previous reasonance level.

Thanx guys-It seems to be that changing the hotdog is the way to go seeing the rear muffler actually is like a straight through but offset type. Maybe I'm just getting too picky because I don't want to lose that tough idle either.

Hey Zpeed, your not online as often as before??? Hows the car hunting going? I was told you might have a BRE style rear spoiler sitting at home?
