Posted August 1, 200321 yr comment_45809 i have gotten a 74 260z the guy who had it before was in the process of changeing the flatops to roundtops and messes his back up he said he got the carbs new(Referb?) for $300, they never went on the car till i got it, and i can get it to run itll backfire threw the carb , and idle at 1500-2000 rpms i can get rid of the backfire and i now see that the front carb it leaking a little gas around the mixture nut, could the carbs have sat for too long?they sat for about 7 months before i got the car. August 2, 200321 yr comment_45829 Have you tuned them? If they were kept in a plastic bad away from the elements everything should be OK. should still be new (or good working cond). You have to tune each crab separate. Get a MSA catalogue and buy a sync tool.-Brandon7071 240Z95 4X4 HB(DD) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/7287-carbs-sat-to-long/#findComment-45829 Share on other sites
August 2, 200321 yr Author comment_45838 no they were let in the back of the car in a garage on the manifold, i got it to run with out backfireing now, cause i figured out which way "engages" the choke. now when i give it a little gas the idle shoots up to 2k from 1k and wont come down, i think this might be because im missing the rear carb throttle return spring :stupid:, i dont have a unisyc yet but my local parts place can get one for $24 now do i have to use the balace screw to get them in sync or the idle screws? August 2, 200321 yr comment_45841 balace screw then you use the choke to get it to idle right. DO not use the choke for a power boost while driving. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/7287-carbs-sat-to-long/#findComment-45841 Share on other sites
August 8, 200321 yr Author comment_46474 well i think i need to rebuild the front carb at least its leaking around the mixture nut and the float boat is flooding after it warms up...... should i do them both or just the front one? August 11, 200321 yr comment_46800 If you have the money and time do them both.If you depend on your Z every day do what you can the best you can.Remember You only have to rebuild them once, then just keep them in good shape. They'll last forever. You can buy original Nissan Rebuild kits off of e-bay. Maybe Nissan still carrie the pats. August 12, 200321 yr Author comment_46890 well i go them off and they both looked like they leaked around the mixture nut, so both of them are getting rebuilt, i dont depend on it to drive everyday so im fine with doing them both.
