August 13, 200321 yr comment_46981 A little ticking is normal, don't work too hard at it and overtighten one of them, you'll eat up your cam in no time. If the clearance is right after you snug down the lock nut I wouldn't worry about it, mechanical valves are noisy compaired to hydralic which have a cushion of oil to ride on. August 13, 200321 yr comment_46989 Chris, I can relate... have been adjusting my valves over the last couple of months, while doing compression checks andmost recently, replacing the valve stem seals. Have found that doing it cold is easier cause you don'thave to rush. The real trick is to apply just enough pressureon the 14mm adjusting nut to hold the adjusting stem inposition, while tighting down the lock nut with the 17mm. Have tried both the recommended crows foot or the plainopen end 17mm and had better luck with the open end wrench. .08 and .010 is what I used. Sure its not as quiet as themodern valve trains, but it sure dosen't sound like a diesel!Keep trying...Z-On:classic: 75-280 / n42 / Monza xhst / urethane bush / Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/7503-4th-times-the-charm-aaarrrgggg/#findComment-46989 Share on other sites
August 14, 200321 yr comment_46995 I find that adjusting them is a bit of an art and it's best to take your time, as the others say your always gonna get a bit of noise but it's better to actually be able to hear some noise than none.I haven't done them cold before but might give it a go, since one or 2 sound a bit noisy.A good oil change always makes me feel better about the noise also dunno it's just me.I notice too things about Z's after you've given them a good hard drive say 5,500 - 6000rpm.The valve train makes a little bit more noise, and the SU's need adjustment again. That's after a repedative hard drive over a 2 week period or so.Do you guys find this?:classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/7503-4th-times-the-charm-aaarrrgggg/#findComment-46995 Share on other sites
