I can't stand the older 911's the Z to me had so much more style.

It was sharper, and if not for the price tag I believe a better car.

Rear wheel drive is just my preference and there's nothing really exciting about there boxer style engine that just sounds like a VW on roids.

The 80's saw ridiculous whale tails(functional on a 911 for the intercooler) but many Z owners emulated this and I personally don't approve much.

They are a nice car but I like the Z's dash more the styling of the instruments is timeless especially on the 240z's(not so much 260z for me).

However the interior quality of the 911's is admittedly better, the genuine leather is very nice.

I prefer the Z's sugar scoop headlights to the 911's style front lights, I look at shop windows when I drive past at night and love seeing those glow :).

Oh and I really like the back of the Z especially 240z(again not so much 260z). The rear lights are a work of art very similar to that of the alfa's GTV's , they remind me of a Daytona Cobra Coupe at the back without the bumper on, a Etype jag at the front and a 911 on the side. I guess I'm Z nuts but that's just the way I feel I see so many porsche's around I see alot less surviving Z's.

It's good to be different and stylish while your at it I think the Z will always be remembered for this :).

I do like the newer porsche's though must admit very well designed but you do pay a price one that I can't afford at the moment that's for sure.

End of rant :).

thanks for the comments, well yesterday i pulled up next to a very nice lowered red 911 with a big whale tail on it, i tried to stay next to him in second at about 2800 kinda blipping the throttle but no matter how slow i was goin he wouldent pull up next to me ahhh o well. anyways after that car show i stopped by my friends house and was hangin out over there for awhile but on my way back i ran into a couple of the muscle cars from the show getting onto the freeway, well the main car that wanted some was this gt350, replica i hope, anyways i guess u could say i kinda cut him off from pulling out since i went thru the end of my stoplight when it was yellow, anyways i think i made him mad and he tried tailgating me on the freeway onramp (onramp was a downhill hard right turn)....... LOL i dont think so, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, after that he wasent even in my rearview mirror. heres a pic of the mustang show_0016.jpg

dero,

Are those a pair of Z dished mags that you've done in black? Those look sharp! How did you do that and what did you use?

I am also curious aobut your air induction fab work. How does that work out for you? Any noticable gains? What did you use and how did you do this mod?

G'Day there Dero.

Now, when you say that you prefer the body styling of the 240 over the 260 I suspect that you are refering to the 260 2+2. Is that right ????.

I've had my 260 Coupe parked next to my mates 240 and they don't look all that different.

It is my understanding that the first of the 260's actually had 240 bodys. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that one.

Yeah, you MUST be refering to the 2+2's.

Rick.

Hey Rick I wasn't actually refering to the 260z 2+2 but bear with me here.

I like the 240z over the 260z 2 seater mainly just because I'm more partial to the rear lights, the 240z dash, some of the badging and the steering wheel and ever so slightly lighter :)

Very minor differences but to me I just prefer the early of the Z cars.

Don't get me wrong I still really like alot of the 260z 2 seaters by all means and I am partial to the 2+2's slightly.

I'm currently looking for a 2+2 for a friend but most examples have been poor and made me realise the 2 seater is just a better car in so many ways.

Don't feel any less towards your efforts on your 2 seater 260z that's just my 2 cents that I like 240z's more.:classic:

Looks to me that we are not comparing apples with apples here. The Brown ( ? ) 911 in the pics is not really a fair comparison with an early S30-series Z car, as its far too late a model and has crappy USA-spec suspension ( by the looks of it ) and the ugly 5mph impact bumpers.

A better comparison would be 1969 Z against 1969 911. The 911 debuted a good few years earlier than the Z, but comparing models that could be bought in a showroom during the same period would seem to be a fairer basis for comparison.

If you do this then the comparison might start getting a bit more even. The earlier and simpler 911's are a lot prettier than the later-Seventies versions ( in my opinion ) and have a lot of street 'presence'. A nice simple 911S starts getting difficult to put down so easily looks-wise, and will outperform an early Z in most areas ( especially if the early Z happens to be a USA / North American market model:devious: ). Maybe a 911T or E would be a better like-for-like comparison.

The 911 has a pretty successful competition history ( to put it mildly ) - even if you look at just the pre-1975 era. The early Z did really well in competition compared to many cars, but comes nowhere near the early 911 results-wise.

I'm a through-and-through early Z enthusiast who used to drive Porsches, and I see the merits and demerits on both sides. One of the 911's problems for people like 'us' is that we tend to associate the 911 ( and other cars ) with a stereotypical image. Usually this reflects our own view of our personal socio-economic status, and our prejudices. I can relate to this, but I have personal experience of early ( and late! ) 911's - and you have to judge the machinery and not your image of its owner.

If I had money to spare then an early 911 would definitely be part of MY stable of cars. The early 911 is about a lot more than its static looks...........

You have a good point there Alan, in many ways you are right I judge a porsche on it's "image factor" that you see too many yuppies driving these days.

I tend to feel most buy these cars for their wow factor not the driving sensation.

I've always felt Z enthusiasts are more the "drive for the pleasure of driving" type.

Personally I still prefer the Z's looks but do admit the earlier 911's are a nice car. A friend and I always like well looked after early examples I think it was the late 70's early 80's models that have put me off.

I suppose the Z appeals to me because it's everything I've wanted as a kid growing up, I always loved porsches but being young and still studying could never afford a 911. The Z has given me everything I could have asked for from a car and for that I am entirely grateful.

You may be right we may be comparing apples and oranges here but I can almost guarantee that the 911 in that picture would probably be worth twice as much as the Z and for what reason I'm not so sure?

Still I'm glad that you've given me another perspective to consider.
