Otherwise only cars up to serial number HLS30-07985 came with the early ball joints.

My 240Z is manufactured in 9/70, and the serialnumber starts with HLS30-09 so I should be ok with the ball joint for the later cars. Found new 14mm ball joints locally. Going to have them installed in next week, and after that I should finally be able to have the car on the road after I bought it two years ago

I have a 7/71 and the ball joints are definately still the smaller type. Bought the 14mm thread style and they do not fit.

Looks like some of the late 70 early 71 models had these smaller 11mm threaded ball joints as well..

My 9/70 production had one 11m and one 14mm ball joint/steering knuckle combo. Old ball joints looked exactly the same but for the stud size (guess one side could have been changed out to a different size at one time, or they were mismatched from factory). I bought a used 14mm knuckle and went with the Moog ball joints (after trying another brand that would not fit), Moog's were perfect fit.

just an FYI - my HLS30-07992 came with the early style ball joints

Just to confirm, went to Autozone and ordered 2 ball joints for my 1970 240z, fit like a champ, and cheap too.
