drunkenmaster Posted August 24, 2003 Share #1 Posted August 24, 2003 Since I am soon to be back in the world of running Z's (courtesy of a recent purchase from a fellow aussie member) I am curious to what fuel you guys run?LRP? Optimax? 3 tanks Optimax then 1 tank LRP? etc etcThanks
HKSZ Posted August 24, 2003 Share #2 Posted August 24, 2003 Optimax makes a big difference, I've always used it in my 300 and now they've banned avgas I use it in my L series race car. If your still building your head it would be a good time to change to bronze guides and hardened seats etc and just run ULP and Optimax when you want some extra kick. With the 98 oc in Opti your motor should run a little cooler and you will probably need a bit more advance. A word of warning though, put new fuel hoses on as it will soften old ones and replace the fuel filter. Optimax has a harsh cleaning solvent as its designed for modern FI systems, alot of guys have had trouble with it stripping the gunk out of the filter and passing it on to the carbies. sjcurtis Posted August 24, 2003 Share #3 Posted August 24, 2003 ULP that is the go, I have run this stuff for a number of years, no matter where you get it it is always the same ( cheap and nasty) and it does not cost to much either, the incredible thing is they blend it with so many diffrent addatives, raise so much tax from it and it is never ever consistant. If you have an engine that can survive and run this stuff it is bullet proof.cheersSteve:classic:
Zedrally Posted August 25, 2003 Share #4 Posted August 25, 2003 LRP for me, OPtimax when I want to fang about!
Gav240z Posted August 25, 2003 Share #5 Posted August 25, 2003 I use optimax whenever possible I hate all other fuel it hates my engine. Having 10:1 compression is not good with only Premium Unleaded Junk they have at BP. 95 Octane, Optimax is 98 and I do notice she runs alot nicer.I agree fuel these days is crap they add so much crap tax you so much for it and it's never any good.I don't even bother with LRP anymore since my current Z has steel valve seats. Your P90 will already have these if that's what you'll be using for your Z.
drunkenmaster Posted August 25, 2003 Author Share #6 Posted August 25, 2003 Thanks guys,The motor in question is a carb'd standard L26, not my L28ET. So perhaps alternate Optimax and LRP due to the standard seats?
Gav240z Posted August 25, 2003 Share #7 Posted August 25, 2003 Don't know if I'd bother with Optimax on a standard L26. I never noticed any difference myself on a stock L engine.I notice on my current setup due to high compression.Be interesting to hear any opinions?? drunkenmaster Posted August 26, 2003 Author Share #8 Posted August 26, 2003 Im not really in it for the power, more the fact that I hear many people claim LRP is a poor quality fuel.
Gav240z Posted August 26, 2003 Share #9 Posted August 26, 2003 Yeah I think LRP is garbage. From my experience when they were first implementing it Leaded made the car drive better.I spose if you want your best bet is Optimax. But if your gonna just put in the L28 turbo within a year or 2 I don't think LRP will kill it.Has the L26 been rebuilt or is it an old motor? drunkenmaster Posted August 26, 2003 Author Share #10 Posted August 26, 2003 Old motor as far as i know....it is seperate to my project 260Z, this is my other other 260Z i just bought last week making a total of 3 :stupid:
sjcurtis Posted August 26, 2003 Share #11 Posted August 26, 2003 If you have an older engine (passing mid life). why bother with optimax or LRP just give it ULP. You will not notice any real decay in condition and it will run well if you tune it too suit. This will give you time to progress your other projects before any real effect will be a problem. Did I hear a new or extra Zed.CheersSteve:classic:
drunkenmaster Posted August 26, 2003 Author Share #12 Posted August 26, 2003 I dont know, extra, new, project, daily driver, parts car, its all blending into one. The Z's are getting out of control. It should arrive tomorrow and apparently the 240Z round top carbs fitted to the L26 are in a poor state of tune, hence all the q's about what fuel to use because whatever i fill it up with is what i am going to have a crack tuning it with.Since I have side tracked myself, where in Melbourne (or possibly interstate) can you pick up a Unisyn and perhaps a ColorTune. From my reading these 2 tools and a lot of fiddling are all that is required for a decent tune up?
