Posted August 28, 200321 yr comment_47966 I have a 71 that is starting to bubble up some rust in the area directly behind the rear bumper. This is the body sheet metal, not the tail light surrounds. I have never seen a Z rust in that spot before. IT must be rare, since the Victoria and MSA catalogs don't show replacemnt panels for that part. Does any one out there know of a source for that panel? Thanks,Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/7657-availability-of-rear-body-panel/ Share on other sites
August 28, 200321 yr comment_47968 Since it's all one panel from the bottom to the inside hatch area, there's no replacement for the section below the lights. Only a couple places have the section inside the hatch. Unless you can find a NOS one from Nissan that has been NLA for years.:disappoin If there's no rust anywhere else, especially inside the hatch, probably a small patch panel is about the only way to go. August 28, 200321 yr comment_47969 actually that's not true, MSA carries it and it's titled "rear panel'. Part number 30-7240....however 70-73, 74.5-76, and 77-78 coupe are all listed as "As available"...so you'll have to give them a shout and see if they have one in stock. They carry one in stock for the 74 coupe at $ 349.52 and all 2+2 models 74-78. If the 71 part isn't available, you may be able to use the 74 coupe panel they list as having in stock and make some minor adjustments to make it fit your application. August 28, 200321 yr Author comment_47970 That's kinda what I thought. I was planning to visit a body shop today and wanted to know if there were any options available. Looks like he'll have to fab a panel.Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/7657-availability-of-rear-body-panel/#findComment-47970 Share on other sites

August 28, 200321 yr Author comment_47972 Thanks. I looked at the MSA catalog last night. It showed the 70-72 model as NLA. The 73-74 has the shock absorber bumpers, so that panel would be different. Is the P/N 30-7240 for the 74 model? I don't have the catalog here in the office ?Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/7657-availability-of-rear-body-panel/#findComment-47972 Share on other sites
August 28, 200321 yr comment_47975 the 30-7240 is listed as the 70-73 panel in the catalog I have which is within the last year. perhaps they have updated the catalog and mine is outdated now. you could try either Z barn, MidwestZ, danny's datsun's, or zach's Z for a used one out of a donor car. August 28, 200321 yr Author comment_47976 I just got off the phose with MSA. He said that they were expecting a shipment of the rear panel for the 70-72's in early August, but it hadn't come in yet. Quoted me $250 for the part. It goes from the valance up to where the tail light surround is. That would meet my needs.
