Haha, I'm TRYING!

N42 bottom end I got looks to have next to no miles on it...rad dude I got it from got his Z to swap in something else, L28 turbo or V8...so I was happy to get the 2.8 that came with it off his hands. Rebuilt and .050 over but the head was gone so no compression numbers. So on went Dave's rebuilt head he had gone through at the same time as yours Eric, but Nissan of Thousand Oaks only gave him 8 head bolts. So I bought ARP studs and boy I was impressed. BUT as they only need to be hand tight into the block (where the clapping force is generated on top of the cylinder head at the beautiful ARP nuts) one stud did NOT like the threads in the block. And you only use a small allen key to drive each stud home. SO off came the head and grabbed a 10mm tap and pulled out a few some iron fillings and a small woodland creature. Love the feeling of cutting through corrosion to restore threads! Then the stud drove happily down with ARP moly lube. Cleaned both deck surfaces as best I could and hope they are true, no money to take the head apart and check. ARP only asked for 60lbs overall...as they don't strech at least not as much as OEM bolts do. I torqued them down in proper sequence to 30lbs first then to 60. Sound enough?!

Most of my time has been spent cleaning and saving money! The steering looks done, delrin spacer had to be filed a few mils to bolt up, and the MSA urethane rack bushings needed persuasion to seat properly! That was a two beer job.

44mm Mikuni's need nothing as Dave surely coveted them as much as you do your set, so all I need to do is wait for the new fasteners for the timing cover to come from Z Car Garage (Go GA Z Rawb!) and engine in next weekend?

j!
