Your right Mellow you do have to do an engineer report infact I think it may be illegal to have a turbo charged L28 in your 240z but legal to have a turbo l24 in their.

SOmeone once said this haven't been through the proceedure so not 100% on that seems a bit silly.

Especially if you can have an RB26 in a Z.

This is for victoria as I say only heard this once not 100% sure.

yes from what i have heard you can put the same size engine or smaller in without all the trouble with compliance but if you put a bigger engine in i think you have to get your complience redone & your braking system upgraded, thats just form what i have heard tho not experience......

ps, can someone please tell me which carbys to use as i want to put them on soon.

Been finding out a bit more about the upgrade

on a 240Z its legal as long as you follow the guidelines when

putting a turbo in. Do not know about the breaks yet as I have to

write a letter asking permission , Please can I have a Turbo:sick:

Let you know more when I find out all the requirements.

Your right Gaven probably better to restamp the engineLOL .

I have a 1970 Zed and there not as strict on the earlier models.

Mellow I would put the 240Z Carby,s on I have a couple of days

off I will scan the setup sheet and email the to you. Just need to

read the instructions on my new scanner!

Think all these dumb regulations are more to do with emmissions

when putting in bigger motors more than anything. No dought

going to be out a few dollars thanks to the Raving Green Loony

anything you do find out about the upgrade i would like to hear, as i would also love a turbo :cheeky:

one question.... the roundtops in my gallery, are they 240z carbys or not. sorry im rather new to all this....

If you could scan the setup sheet and email it to me, that would help alot.

Hi Mellow your roundtops are not actually Hitachi SU's (Japanese SU's found on the 240z). They look to be the British equivelent found on MG's, Jag's etc.. Still better than the current boat anchor set up(260z standard carbs). From my experience the Japanese ones are superior in quality and have a habbit or being more relaible like anything japanese when compared with the british LOL.

I think another read of www.ztherapy.com will help you understand why they are so great.

The bit about chrome plating parts is interesting as it says it helped them to last against wear all these years.

I would highly recommend rebushing the carbs getting new needle seats and gaskets for the carbs aswell as setting the float level before putting them on your car.

That way it should be a smooth change over good luck.

They look to me to 240Z Carbys. Gaven could be right take the

air filters of and look underneath for the mixture screw. Float

chambers are on the side pretty sure thats what I am seeing.

look in between float chamber and main body there should be a stamp 150 in a circle.

Have taken some pics off my spare set at different angles so you can compare. Also what numbers are stamped on the inlet

manifold?

Not all British SU,s have the float chamber on the bottom have

seen them the same layout as the Hitachi Copys only they will

have a red mixture screw instead of the the grey screw.

You will know British as they will be stamped. Thats why

I think they are early 240Z Carbs. The copies are the better

of the two as the Japs did do a good job on them!

I am curious you say you have a 1970 240z are you sure, is that on the rego or do you know by some other means, can you tell me the body number also what was the engine number on the data plate in the engine bay, maybe I can tell you more.

To these bigger engine instals and re-engineering to compliance I think the mainroads people are trying to keep a lid on power to weight ratio.

To the round top Hitachis these are the number a great setup for the L series if you have them. They will run well on any size or build combination they are easy to set up and they will hold a tune for months if they are in reasonable condition. with regular checks and some singer sewing machine oil to keep the lube between the lines they will do the job well.

To the water manifold on the round top Hitachi carbs Number one reason for this part being disconnected is a corroded tube or fitting leaking water out of the system. Check for this problem if there is no leak leave a water flow through from the thermostat housing throught the manifold around the back of the block and into the heater return line. This loop is designed to aid cold start and cold running ( others would say they are polution control but that is not the whole deal.
