g-nose years

To say that the g-nose was on an s30 is a little incorrect because the s30's came with a 2 ltr engine. As far as body style, yes it is a S30. This whole site is about the s30, which includes all first generation Zcars. To be a little more correct it could be considered to be on a HS30, which has a 2.4ltr, but the 240zg is the name of the so-called HS30 with the g-nose and was an actual model offered by Nissan. To be exact, the chassis type for the 240ZG is HS30-H, but the vin# will say HS30-, not HS30-H-. The 240zg was built from October 1971 to September 1973. But it was considered a 1972-1973.

I believe that Nissan did offer the g-nose as a sports option though, but I am not 100% on that one. To really get more information about this I would talk to Alan(HS30-H), since he owns one and is a Z afficionado(I cannot spell).

I hope I helped. The 240ZG is a very beautiful piece of Nissan history. I do not know of an original 240ZG in the states, but hopefully I will bring one back someday. Hehehehehe. I am such a dreamer. ROFL

FYI the Mr. K Z has a genuine g-nose, but it is not a 240zg.

From 73' onwards they were replicas, as Alan always says the better stuff comes from japan.

Also the original Gnose was partly made of a rubber compound and is said to be of very good quality.

I have always wanted one but am not so sure about the fibreglass ones.

I think if I ever get one it will have to be an original one.

Just to clarify Gav,

It was only the actual Bumper of the ZG and the Factory G-Nose kit that was made from Urethane. All the other parts ( Headlamp cowls, upper panel, lower panel & Overfenders ) were made from fibreglass ( "FRP" in Japan ).

There would be nothing wrong with the replicas if they were even close to the quality and fit of the original parts - but they usually are not. The best of the budget replicas I have seen were made in Japan, and once properly installed look like the real thing until you get close enough to look underneath. However, I have seen replica panels made by a one-man company in Japan that are all but indistinguishable from the real thing. The same company even replicates the Urethane front bumper perfectly. He only supplies these to owners of original ZG's who need them to repair crash damage, and they are VERY expensive.

The original items are extremely good quality, but even then there can be fit issues. Once you get the car up to a high speed ( over 100mph ) it starts putting a BIG strain on the panels, and they are after all basically just hanging off the front of the car with not very much holding them up. I've stopped after some fast motorway and track drives to find that the bonnet filler panel has drooped about 1cm. Wait about 10 minutes and it gradually seems to 'relax' back into shape.................

Don't forget that the Bonnet / Hood hinges are also different.

I know of a guy with an authentic gnose that constantly goes over 100mph never noticed that but he also had his reinforced after someone reversing into it one day.

I was pretty sure it was a lower part of the gnose which was poly but couldn't remember. :)

Constantly over 100mph? Where does he live then - Daytona?

If his "authentic" G-Nose is strengthened or reinforced then he might not have the same drooping issues. However - I can assure you that this is a well-known problem amongst owners of the real thing in Japan. Its not just my car that does it.

Yeah he had some bracket made up for it after it being driven into.

He doesn't live in Daytona just everytime I see his car he's driving fast :).

It's pretty impressive to see a 240z fly towards you from behind at 160km/h or more :).

I never noticed the droopy gnose maybe he still get's it. :)
