October 16, 200321 yr comment_53277 Guess we were both typing at the same time....:stupid: The only thing I would be concerned about at all would be if the gland nut were to be left loose or to come loose, is the "spacer" going to be able to move around under the cartridge? If it might, will it be so that the catridge is no longer fully supported or is the "spacer" fitted to the cartridge so that it can't move? October 16, 200321 yr comment_53280 OK, guys. Thanks. I feel better now that it has been discussed a bit. Kinda wish I had a set them to play with and measure a bit.Remember, like my Mama always says, "Nobody sweats the details like Carl." :stupid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/7876-weird-set-of-tokicos/?&page=4#findComment-53280 Share on other sites
October 16, 200321 yr Author comment_53281 Not that it matters, the old strut has a rod extension of 39% of body length. The new one is 43%. Or: the old strut has a body/rod extension ration of 2.6/1 The new one is 2.3/1Those spacers are on TIGHT. They are pressed over the thickened little 'foot' on the bottom. They are galvanized steel pipe with a wall thinkness of maybe 3/16. I have actually read of steel spacers being cut and installed in the bottom of strut tubes. This seems at least as good, because instead of just basically a block sitting under the cartridge, you actually have a male/female union. Thanks, guys for the little adrenaline shot. I'm going back to my margaritas.steve77 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/7876-weird-set-of-tokicos/?&page=4#findComment-53281 Share on other sites
October 16, 200321 yr comment_53283 Hopefully you don't work on the car after drinking the margaritas.... ROFL I've seen different kinds of spacers... just wondered if these were press-fitted over the "foot" or if it was loose..... October 16, 200321 yr comment_53288 Originally posted by Zvoiture Not that it matters, the old strut has a rod extension of 39% of body length. The new one is 43%. Or: the old strut has a body/rod extension ration of 2.6/1 The new one is 2.3/1 I think that is what concerned me most. As Keith pointed out in an earlier reply, the shorter strut had a longer length of piston sticking out, yet a shorter "strut body". That is what concerned me in regard to bottoming out. Longer Piston / Shorter Strut body doesn't make much sense to me if one expects similar range of motion.Margaritas. now that sounds like a great idea. Z Ya!
