seller telling me his 73 240z has factory power windows. Was this available as an option in 73?

POwer windows became available in ZX models.

It is possible that the 73 has been modified, I remember a thread about power mirrors from ZX posted a while back [may have been on the mail list].

and i cannot say for sure if you can use ZX power window parts or not but i do know that VB and i think MSA sell power window conversion kits

Definitely NOT a factory option, but relatively easy to add to any car with an aftermarket kit.

Are you absolutely sure of the no electric windows option?

I'll be the first to admit I know jack when it comes to the Z other than they're freakin cool and I'd love to own one. (240 or 260):classic:

But the 1973 Nissan 2000GT-X Skyline came with electric windows as standard and I believe it was an option on some of the other models, so they did have it there to be used one would think it may transfer over to the Z even if only as an optional extra.

Absolutely not available as an option.

Electric windows were an option on the Japanese-market Fairlady Z range from mid 1976, on the C-S31 and C-GS31 models. Technically, these were S30-series Z cars ( pre S130-series ).

These models got a fair few electrically-operated gizmos, such as remote-operated fender mirrors.

However, if this car is in the USA then I doubt that it is one of these - or has had the electric window parts retro-fitted onto a '73 model. They probably would not fit in the early doors.

They were sold as an aftermarket kit.Myself I was not really impressed.The switches mounted in the center console.A round plastic piece then snapped into the holes that were left in the door panel after removing the manual crank handle.

I like that, solves the problem of adjustment that you were talking about Alan doesn't it?

Just wanted to add a few cents about Power Windows. I have a 78 Fairlady-Z that has power windows and power fender mount mirrors. All the wiring and switches appear to be factory nissan.

The inquiry was abiut a 1973. They were not options then.

I totally agree with the others . . . power windows were not an option on the 73 240Z. In 1979, the GL model 280ZX was introduced, having the luxury options (power windows & steering, cruise control & headlight washers), which lowered its HP tremendously, due to the extra weight of those components. I'm not saying that the other models in between didn't have that option -- I do not have the stats on the rare Fairlady models. However, your question was about the 73 -- so, no, they were not available with the power window option.
