JMT240KGTR Posted September 23, 2003 Share #1 Posted September 23, 2003 Guys,Sorry no photo unfortunately, but I've seen this "mount" that fits on the oil filter mounting point on the block and then the oil filter mounts onto it.With this "mount" on, rather than the filter connecting to the block directly and protruding sideways 90deg, the oil filter mounts downwards on an angle.Sorry if the description is a little fuzzy, obviously someone's seen these, I've seen them on a couple of 280ZX's and thought I'd ask what they are? What purpose do they serve?Part number/description?Cheers.
ZmeFly Posted September 23, 2003 Share #2 Posted September 23, 2003 the oil cooler attatchment, the filter mounts down below, there should be lines coming off of it for the oil cooler
JMT240KGTR Posted September 23, 2003 Author Share #3 Posted September 23, 2003 I would have thought the oil cooler would be for auto trans models and if so, the lines for an auto trans cooler would be attached to the bottom radiator tanks.Did these motors come out with engine oil coolers?I don't recall seeing lines coming off it for the cooler.Interesting...Anyone else? 2ManyZs Posted September 23, 2003 Share #4 Posted September 23, 2003 I think you are referring to a remote filter mount for the oil filter right? It's an adapter that fits where the filter mounts on the block with 2 lines up to another adapter where the filter is located? It's aftermarket... you can pick them up at most any parts store... makes it easier and less messy to change the oil. Some of today's cars are so hard to access the filter, that people use these so they can reach the filter and drain it without having oil run all over the frame, suspension etc....Also, they make it easier to plumb lines to and from an oil cooler. sblake01 Posted September 23, 2003 Share #5 Posted September 23, 2003 I believe the mount you are refering to is a factory item. On my 79 810 (L24E) it appears that it is there to move the oil filter so that the air conditioning lines can pass through that area. I have also seen this on ZX's. My 78 Z does not have it but it has aftermarket a/c and I am not sure if the 240-280 with factory air would have this bracket. I can't see a part number on it and there is no refference to it in my 79 810 service manual.
sblake01 Posted September 30, 2003 Share #6 Posted September 30, 2003 After further research (looking under the hood of my 79 810 Coupe) that bracket angles the oil filter upwards so that the power steering lines can pass through to the steering rack. I don't see a part number on it. I'll remove it and take a good look next oil change.
beandip Posted October 2, 2003 Share #7 Posted October 2, 2003 I bought a '81zx engine awhile back and it has a fitting like you describe . The engine is out of the car and not at my house . I 'll check tomarrow and see if there is any numbers. I have been debating weather or not to use it because I dont think that the larger filter will fit. this engine also has a different starter that is gear driven has any one seem one of these ? the only numbers that I can find are in the inside where the filter spins in . 335 and that's it.
