Posted January 25, 200223 yr comment_2434 well, i just installed my 82 zx 5-speed in my 240z and i have a question. i noticed that my old 4-speed has a nicely s-curved shifter that would go perfectly with my new tranny in order to avoid hitting my heater controls and console. but, the part of the gear shifter that actually goes into the transmission for the 4-speed is longer than the one that came with the 5-speed. will this prevent my transmission from shifting correctly if i used my elongated 4-speed s-curve shifter from the 240 in my 5-speed 82 zx transmission. any help appreciated! i hate shifting with out a shifter knob! January 25, 200223 yr comment_2436 I think that with the ZX tranny, you are stuck with the ZX shifter arm. I am not sure. The 83 non turbo is a better tranny, but oh well. Good luck. You can buy knobs cheap at: http://www.zcarparts.com Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/804-curved-shifter-help/#findComment-2436 Share on other sites
January 25, 200223 yr comment_2445 You could try the "Quick Shifter" kit from Motorsport. It is designed to reduce the shifter throws. I think on the ZX trans it says it reduces the throws by 30% or so, it is expensive, but it may give you what you want. I don't have much experience with the ZX shifters so someone else may have an easier fix.
