Transmission-reverse

Any ideas on why I suddenly started experiencing alot of resistance when shifting into reverse? When I push the stick across through neutral toward reverse, it moves slowly and smoothly only with a lot of force. Then shifting back to reverse is normal. I haven't taken the console off yet. I have the same problem. When I first got my car the reverse light switch had the leads torn off so I got a used replacement from Zbarn, IIRC. When I swapped them out I started to have a lot of resistance when I first went to put it into reverse, but once I have put it into reverse I can put it in and take it out of reverse freely. The resistance usually doesnt happen again until the next day or so of not driving it.

I haven't ever seen the inside of my transmission, but I'm guessing it's just an old reverse light switch with some gummed up oil or something inside giving some sticky movement.

MSA has them listed as 20 bucks(i'm assuming they're new), So I might just buy a replacement eventually.

This may be your problem, maybe you could try taking it out and cleaning it?

Check your clutch fluid level

If you have an early car, you problably need to adjust the slack at the clutch slave cylinder. If it is out of adjustment, you can have trouble getting it into gear. Later models have the self adjusting slave.

The reverse light switch idea is something I would never have thought of. I'll give that a try. The clutch fluid is fine and the clutch slave is self adjusting. Thanks, Victor.
