Speaking of flaking clearcoat on wheels: What is the best(easiest) way to get that off? Would a heat gun work? Also does anyone have any magic coating that has some staying power to recoat with, or is it better just to leave the wheel bare and polish it every so often? Thanks, Victor.

A good paint stripper may take off your clear coat

but I was writing to let you know that the Eastwood Company has a heavy clear coat for any thing polished, like aluminum,

pot metal, brass, etc.

I used it on my 78' 510 when I polished the valve cover and It has real good stay power, hi heat resistance, and does'nt yellow

over time.

it can be brushed on or sprayed, just follow the instructions on the can.

I also have the shelby 500 wheel and plan to polish them this winter. Mine, however, have four small holes, one between each pair of lugs, that the center caps mount to. The center caps have a flange with matching hole. Could this have been original?

As is, I'm missing two of the four caps and will likely need to purchase replacements. I've seen a few sources for the caps, but I don't think any had the flange/holes to match the wheels.

MSA sell those exact caps. Get some S.S. screws at the hardware store and your show ready. The Caps have a little molding bump in the center, so it's best to get the stick-on "Z" or "Datsun" emblems for them.
