October 2, 200321 yr comment_51671 My turn signals didn't work either recently and I tracked the problem down to the flasher. Since the Z has two flashers (unlike old american vehicles), the hazards can still work but the turn signal flasher under the driver's side dash can prevent them from working. Not really sure about the rest of that. Good luck Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8176-please-help-with-electrical-probs/#findComment-51671 Share on other sites
October 2, 200321 yr comment_51703 Like blitzcraig said "I tracked them down to the flasher"the emergency flasher switch may be part of your problem, 1) the blinkers are routed through the emergency flasher switch on the dash. 2) The emergency flasher module is located to the right of the steering column.3) The blinker module is on the passenger side kick panel, when you turn the key to the acc. position, you'll hear a click on the passenger side, find that relay and follow the four wires back into the harness, at that point you'll see two more wires,a blue w/ white stripe and a green wire w/ a white stripethose are your blinker module wires, (you might find the same wires coming out of the back of your emergency flasher switch)4) make sure there is a flasher module attached,5) check your fuses in your fuse box for head light related issuesand check the lights themselves for deteriation or corrosion. and more to cme in a minute or two (damn door bell%$%$) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8176-please-help-with-electrical-probs/#findComment-51703 Share on other sites

October 2, 200321 yr comment_51747 Check the third fuse down right side. That controls all the sidemarker, parking, and tail lights. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8176-please-help-with-electrical-probs/#findComment-51747 Share on other sites
October 21, 200321 yr Author comment_54056 ok i basically rewired the whole car, or at least what seemed dim or not working. Now all lights work, and are fairly bright. My turn signals still do not work and i believe it to be the flasher. Do you think that it would be a good idea to replace both the signal flasher and the hazard flasher. Thanks. October 21, 200321 yr comment_54059 If it's not the flasher, check your common ground wires as well. A bad earth could be part of the problem. My 2c. October 23, 200321 yr comment_54264 O.K. so you've rewired every thing, but did you replace the turn signal switch on the column???Every problem you mentioned before goes through that switch. The brakes, the turn signals, the high beams, all of it goes through that switch. As for the emergency flasher module, sure, replace it. They only cost a few bucks, but I would SERIOUSLY look at the flasher switch on the dash. The front and rear turn signal lights go through that switch, it's module is on the lower right side of the dash or on the upper passenger side kick panel. blue and green w/ white stripes.get back to us and tell me if you replaced that switch or the flasher switch. October 23, 200321 yr comment_54271 Another tip with the turn signals, get a spray can of electrical contact cleaner and give the turn signal switch (internals not the stalk) on the steering column a liberal coating. My zed had not been used for several months when I bought it and this was all that I needed to get them up and running. October 30, 200321 yr Author comment_55270 ok, well i replaced the flashers, because they were old and needed replacement. The hazards worked better, but still no signals. So i removed the hazard switch and took it inside. Got out the old volt meter and tested the wires that led to the flasher to see if current could go through them. Got nothing. so i put it back in the car and just connected the two with a screwdriver, and they worked fine. I soldered them up and now all of my lights work. Thanks alot guys for all of your help. its nice to have such a helpful community for these old cars.
