Hey Gang-----How have ya been? Good I trust. I've been real busy of late. Opened up a business with my best friend this summer and somehow we're still friends. I snapped my carbon fiber skimboard on my ankle; ouch! That's what I get for attempting front-side assaults at the Wedge. 4-6' surf (monster shore break) over two inches of water, a collection of idiots armed with foam resin boards better suited to accompany a key chain. Skimboarding (riding out to waves, not wet sand) is like running down a steep hill as fast as you can with an arm full of oil-soaked bannanas only to drop them directly in your path to step onto and control your destiny for 7-10 seconds. An episode for "Jackass." Thankfully I have my trusty Z to decompress and escape from it all. Because, doing 135 miles per hour while strapped in a metal container, with some gasoline and only four patches of rubber between me and an asphalt cheese grader on a Starbucks binge is therapeutic.

Anyway, are you F1 fans on the edge of your seat? I'll bet my bottom dollar Carl is. Are ya ready for Suzuka? I know for me, Indy (and Monza too) was it! Too bad about Montoya...so much talent there...just needs to harness it all I guess.

Did ya happen notice ALL the BMW ads during Speedchannel's coverage of F1 at Indy. Hoping to capitalize on Montoya's, then, promising drivers championship drive and build on there, then, constructors points lead as well. The US representing "the" market for BMW (any manufactures for that matter). What did we see? Montoya show casing a "how not to contend" and Ralph spinning out on slicks (avoidable via pit stop for rain tires). A season ending day, the worst ever by Montoya, and every station break includes a variety of BMW ads. BMW's marketing department must have been floored....hundreds of thousands of dollars to remind F1 viewers "the ultimate driving machine" is just that, a machine.

Well, as you are no doubt aware of, Kimi needs a win next week and Shuey needs to finish out of points (I think?) to kill a sixth drivers title. Boring? Hardly. The constructors title is still in reach for W-BMW, David (and Montoya) would like nothing better than to see Shuey fail (aiding Kimi being a distant second for David) and the GA's "over due DNF" date all factor in next week. David almost took Shuey out last week, has in the past, and so has Montoya. Neither would loose sleep should they "accidentally bumped" Shuey.

Speaking of David, what do ya make of the numerous rumors a float concerning Montoya and McLaren? F1 is the ultimate "reality show." I mean look, you have the inherent "fear factor", the driver contracts "survivor", teams "the real world", Bernie "big brother", and the sponsors "who want's to marry a millionaire".---Jerry

BTW---Last month I installed a performance cam and now my rocker arms pop off! What gives? I have the rockers set at proper height, tuned em hot too. Do I need to look at valve lash thickness? Find tighter springs? A fresh set of rocker arms, springs and lashes?

It was a good race I must say. Probably one of the best of the year. I guess we need to ask for rain more often. I tell you what after the first set of pits I was really confused. How did Kimi loose his lead? How did Montoya fall back so fast? Good race!

Bridgestone Intermediates was the primary demise for both (Kimi & JP) and Shuey's unmatched speed in wet weather; not to mention a 10 second drive-thru-penalty on JP for bumping Rubens off.---Jerry

The same rumour also included Mark Webber (Jaguar) moving to W-BMW making it a 3-way merry-go-round. Webber scotched the rumour of a move on his part, which means that only potential upside is that Montoya will be the cause of DC losing his drive (at last:devious: )

Can't wait for Suzuka - maybe see another Schumacher desperado move...

Say HALZ---I noticed your two wheel classic, nice ride.....can you tell me why our countrymen, US and Australia respectively, can't seem to dethrone the Europeans in MotoGP? After nearly two decades of dominance you now have podiums occupied by Italians and Spaniards.

Why Collin Edwards passed on the Honda Birdgestone ride I'll never know.---Jerry

My thoughts exactly - where are we? I can only think that the prominence/absence of two-wheeled genii is a cyclic thing. Hey, even the Poms had GP champions at one stage! Australia seems to have been in the doldrums since Sir Michael the Doohan had his last major prang. Fingers crossed for Bayliss.

Fingers also crossed that they don't reduce the capacity of MotoGP bikes in the name of safety. Apparently the MotoGP machines are faster than F1 cars on the same circuits...more power to them I say!

Hi Jerry (and other F1 fans):

I sure was disapointed that JPM wasn't able to take the title battle to Suzuka. I would have loved to see Shuey try one of his patented "My Balls are Bigger than your Balls" moves on this kid with the title on the line! Maybe Kimi will get a decent shot at the title, if Ferarri has troubles.

There have been some pretty good races this year along with a few that were less than spectacular. All in all, I think the revised qualification prcedures worked pretty well from the viewpoint of the fan/spectators (well, at least for THIS fan). Next year they will be slightly different also. No Qual on Friday (an extra hour of practice instead), and on Saturday each car will have TWO separate (single lap) qual runs. This change will give the teams an opportunity to tweak the set-up a bit if they missed it the first time, or if weather conditions change. It should make for a long TV broadcast.

Well, it seems that Jacques Villeneuve is pouting over being dropped from the 2004 driver line-up and has decided that he's no longer motivated enough to race for B.A.R. in Japan this weekend. Some will say that he's been driving like he's not motivated for several years, however equal blame belongs to the team for fielding less than competitive cars.

The good news is that Takuma Sato will take his seat this weekend and for 2004. If any of you guys (besides Jerry) watched the 2002 Suzuka F1 race you'll remember his superb drive through the field for Team Jordan as one of the highlights of the race.
