L24E cylinder head

Thought I'd see if someone can provide some info on the above.

Have an Australian spec E88 head off an L24E Skyline, very similar in design to a P90 although chamber is much smaller, comes with 42mm in & 35 ex valves.

Anyone know the CC's of these heads?

I have posted a pic in my gallery, (still waiting approval) but if I don't need to get it measured and have spec's available it'd be great, at least I'd know roughly what kind of C/R I'd get on an L28.

I've used the "calculator" from the Sydney Datsun Club to give me an estimate but they've got 44.7cc, same as an N42. They must be referring to the earlier E88 versions.

Thanks.

Go to the "calculator" again and click on the head cc's box, delete the figure & type in 41.0 then hit enter.

I think you wil find that to get over 9.0 comp you will need flat tops with valve relief's. (just incase you run a high lift cam).

I know its probably off the track of this thread but I had an opertunity to pick up a turbo head and associated bits (turbo, manifold etc) off a 1984 skyline GT.

Can those heads bolt onto a L24 block. Is most of the skyline and Pintara (spelling) driveline compatable with a L24-L28 Z

Any thoughts would be appreciated

I have one of those on my L28 and when I had the head serviced I had it CC'd. This head had come off another L28 motor and I don't know whether it had been shaved before but it measured 36cc's after a light skim. In my motor with dished pistons it is about 9.5 to 1. If were to put flat tops I would need a 2mm gasket to give about 10.5 or so, otherwise on my calculations with a std gasket it would be in the 11's.

For what it is worth.

Yeah thanks for the replies guys, any info on these is great.

36cc & 41cc hey? Interesting stuff.

Well just this morning I cc'd a couple of chambers and they measured between 38-40cc (I re-measured them several times to be sure).

Pretty sure this head hasn't been shaved either, height is very close if not exact to the standard.

I'll be taking it to the shop this morning and getting .030" shaved.

Given the figures between 36-41cc and .030" shave I'm looking around the 9.4-10.2:1 comp, which is good for me!

Thanks for the feedback fellas, if any further info on these heads can be provided would be good.

Nick what I meant when I referred to this head as similar to the P90 was the closed chamber design, unlike the N42 it has a "heart shaped/peanut shaped chamber" as many would refer to them as. How is that 240K going, finished the GTR replica?

Got ya James,

I have a P90 on a F54 L28 with flat tops which is going to cop a re-build soon but will be putting the efi E88 onto it, should give me around the 10.5. I will set it up with programmable efi (no restrictive AFM) to run her in then have the multiple throttle bodies bolted to the custom intake I've made. Should look neat.

As for the GTR replica, it will be getting primed over the weekend.

There were several models of GT skyline, some with FJ40's and some with L20's and some with L28's

You could bolt the L series turbo onto a 240z block, but the compression would be way to high.

You'd need to rebuilt the block with turbo pistons (dished) to lower the compression.

Geabox would bolt straight up, but the ratios would be different.

I met a guy on the weekend who has a whole bunch of L20ET's. and even more L series heads. All from skylines and laurels.

The Heads on the earlier L20ET 's engine were N42's ( i think some might have had e88's also. I was a bit dazzled by the assortment of engines, turbos, diffs, and other bits to be sure)and the later ones had no casting code only the number 05 where the code should be. Does the P90 have P90 cast into the side? or would these be P90's?

His collection og heads included an E30, E88's, N42's, and the 05 heads.

He eventually gave up trying to get parts and info for the L20ET and put an L28E (NA) into his laurel.

So does anyone know about the mystery 05 head?
