Posted October 10, 200321 yr comment_52643 My 73 240 is in need of rings, right away! The only ones we can find are cast iron and there is no way I'm putting that in there! Datsun/Nissan no longer makes the rings to fit this car and aftermarket can't get here til tuesday. Any suggestions? Thanks,TraeZ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8313-73-240z-rings/ Share on other sites
October 10, 200321 yr comment_52683 What kind of rings are you wanting to put in if not cast iron? Chrome? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8313-73-240z-rings/#findComment-52683 Share on other sites
October 10, 200321 yr Author comment_52690 Yes, I was told that the cast iron ones would eventually cause me to blow a piston and have to redo the enitre overhaul! Is there different info? October 10, 200321 yr comment_52693 I'm pretty certain that the car came with cast iron from the factory. Few engines come originally with chrome from the factory, the only one I can think of off hand is the old Pontiac 455. Chrome rings are harder than cast iron and will last longer but can be a bear to seat. I've heard of cases where chrome rings never seated. I would go with the cast iron, that's probably what you would have gotten from the dealer if he still stocked them. Properly fitted they should give you good long service. October 14, 200321 yr Author comment_53053 Lance, thanks for the info, we did go with the cast iron ones and it runs like a stallion! I left it in Tulsa for now since it has a new engine and needs that break in time at lower, slower speeds! Can't wait to bring her home and pamper her here!!
