question about my rear end

I recently installed a 3.7 LSD(form a 300ZX) into my 240Z. It was supposedly rebuilt. after about 30 mph, I hear can hear it whine. I put in the input shafts from an 78 R200. They fit in and the C-clips locked them in place. I crawled underneath the car and checked the halfshalfts. I noticed a little play where the input shalf goes into the rear end. the play was back and forth, not in and out of the hole. could it be just the bearings???

I think 280ZX fever was referring to the title o fthe post.

"Question about my rear end"

In Aus/NZ we call your "rear end" an "arse"

So...a question about your arse eh? I see 280ZX fevers point...maybe better in the funnybone section.

HEHEHEHEHEHE

So sorry, I don't have any knowledge about the diff area in the 240 so I'll leave that to someone who does. But a good question is at what speed do you hear the whine....70mph?

Is it too big? Huh? Huh? Is it? Does this make me look fat? Tell me the truth!

Seroiusly, does it whine under acceleration or whine on decel?

Geeeeeez, how could you type 'rear end' and 'whine' in the same sentence with a straight face?

It was very early in the morning, and I was in a hurry. But seriously, it whines accelerating and decelerating. I have heard that these diff's are louder. I also have poly bushings on my mustache bar. I don't mind it being loud, just don't want premature failure. Could it possibly be U-joints?? I know it's tough without actually hearing it, I just know my old open end diff was a lot quieter.

I had a rear end (differential) that lost it's fluid and it started to whine. It was really obvious and loud. I replaced the missing fluid and made it back home (which was about 300 miles). When I drained it again the oil had an obvious burnt smell to it. I ended up replacing the diff. Don't know if this helps but this was may experience.
