bryantatem Posted October 10, 2003 Share #2 Posted October 10, 2003 Let's see. My 71 I paid $850.00 for. It needs a clutch and soome cosmetic work. Engine and transmission are great. I just got it last year. My 72 I paid $600.00 for. It WAS an auto and had been sitting for over 10 years. It is alive now (sometimes) and it will become my auto X car one day when I get off my backside and do some work on it.
240Zdragon72 Posted October 11, 2003 Share #3 Posted October 11, 2003 $300 here. The guy couldn't get it to run....this whole time it was the ignition switch. She runs like a champ now. "Carberated 280ZX L28 in a 240z was a piece of cake to swap" he said, but now I have to pull it all back out(now that I know it runs) to rebuild the engine with performance parts from MSA, NOPI and Victoria British. He got the engine out of a 83 ZX sitting in a junkyard. "It had been there for a couple of months and the guy who owned it before said he just had too many problems with it starting and running for a couple of years." So, I think it was a good deal, someone had already done the wrench work to start. Now I have to pull the engine and put what I want in it. By the way, how would I go about swapping the L engine for e RB26DET? I heard that at least one person has successfully completed his. Besides the motor, what other shits would I have to do to the 240? (prep-work, welding new motor mounts..ect.?)Thanks for reading my thread..... phil Posted October 11, 2003 Share #4 Posted October 11, 2003 Where are you guys finding these. I've been looking for about a month now and the cheapest i can find is like 4000 for a restored 240z.
240Zdragon72 Posted October 11, 2003 Share #5 Posted October 11, 2003 I got mine from a guy I work with. He just didn't have the time for it. So I baught it off him and traded another car for it. ( A 1984 Ford Escort Wagon) It was running and the Z wasn't. So I told him the Ford was worth $200 and that I'd buy the Z if he knocked off $200. He agreed and said that it wasn't worth the hasell to figure out what was wrong. Just a bad ignition switch. :tapemouth Have fun trying to find your Z. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.:classic:

Inf Posted October 11, 2003 Share #8 Posted October 11, 2003 Cuong Nguyen is his username and his swap is really nice from what i've seen.I think the biggest obstacle to swapping out an rb26dett in the USA is just getting the parts... I've seen some pretty outrageous prices quoted for importing the necessary stuff. Maybe the engine from a supra TT would be an easier swap(from a financial standpoint) since they were sold in the states?
240Zdragon72 Posted October 11, 2003 Share #9 Posted October 11, 2003 That sounds like a better deal. But, isen't the RB26 and the 2JZ pretty much the same engine? ( In line 6 and all?)
