October 27, 200321 yr comment_54756 Sealer is not required but I've noticed that some shops put some of that copper high-temp sealer on the gasket. If you are using headers then a sealer might help maintain the seal. I don't know about you guys but those "special" gaskets from MSA for headers seem to develop cracks. I think we have discussed this one before. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8578-dumb-gasket-question/#findComment-54756 Share on other sites
October 27, 200321 yr comment_54758 The Factory Manual states no sealer is necessary.Although, in actual practice I would recommend using high temp sealer on the exhaust. The exhaust manifold is prone to developing a "slight"warp and sealer is cheap insurance against that posssible and very annoying exhaust leak that hampers the z series. October 27, 200321 yr comment_54769 No gasket gew is neccessary however i would recommend fastening all bolts first and then tightening in a cross pattern to ensure a good seal.To check for exhaust leak use a cut off garden hose and put near seal and check for flutter noise.I know the exhaust shop who cut a section at the extractors so that I could remove the exhaust and get to the gbox easier didn't do a great deal with sealing and possibly used gasket gew and it's still leaking I didn't take it back yet car hsan't been on the road but i'm pissed off with them because it's something so simple and they can't get it right. The old do it yourself if you want it done properly often applies :stupid: .
