The only video I have about them is of a modern recreation built using mikuni 50mm carbs, not FI. Yet the two 1/18 models I've ever seen of the car (done by Kyosho who ought to know a thing or two about those cars) show them as being fuel injected...

Hi Eric,

Long time no see.

Yes - the Works Skylines were injected from '69 ( on the PGC10 GT-R ).

They first used LUCAS sliding-throttle ( mechanical ) setups, and later went onto Nissan's own "ECGI" ( electronic ) setup.

The Works 432Rs and 240ZRs were also run on the Lucas and Nissan ECGI systems, on 'normal' LR engines as well as the SOHC LY engines.

Many of the Works cars lower down in the pecking order were on carbs - but the top-level Works cars were often on varying forms of experimental FI.

The ECGI was sometimes used on Works rally cars too - but they found that carbs were often more reliable at that time.

I ask because I've never seen this - by "never" I mean in the Japanese magazines as a tuner shop offered option... then again my reading is limited to nostalgic hero and autoworks which it is possible on covers a small portion of interested parties...

Its been done ( nothing new under the sun, eh? ) in Japan, and I'm sure elsewhere too ( ? ).

I've seen a full stand-alone injection setup ( modern type ) with computered fuelling / ignition and individual throttle bodies on an L-series six. I have photos and a 'how to' article from a Japanese mag ( its around here somewhere.......... ).

I'll have to scan it up and post it here when I come back from Japan ( back on 6th Nov.).

Sanyo Kiki used to make a bolt-on injection setup for the L-series sixes back in the early Eighties. It was called the "D-Fit" kit, and there were lots of different versions from Trust, HKS etc etc.

Again, I'll look into this for you when I get back.

Surely the works setup can be improved these days with 32bit ECU's etc.. I like those Photo's Alan I do recall reading about the skylines being fuel injected but not by works as a option for a standard car can you elaborate on this any further or is this false information?

BTW I went through some years of Bathurst and couldn't find much about Skylines KPGC10 GTR's being raced I think I saw one but that was late 60's - early 70's the Z's were not there only in 75 I could see one.

Any ideas on how to track down information on there racing history here in Australia?:cheeky:

PGC10 Skylines weren't raced at Bathurst if I'm correct; only C110 240K's were raced in Oz; by that I mean Skyline variant.

i think pre KPGC10 Skylines were raced, not sure all i could see was a 75 2+2 in 75 and there was a few datsuns here and there only the bathurst highlights tapes.

Where??? I had the idea the C110's weren't raced officially anywhere.

If the C110 was raced here, I expect that it may have been beaten by a stock 120Y....(sorry Lachlan)

AFAIK the 210, 510 & 610 were raced in the '70s. The DR30 RS Turbo, N12 EXA Turbo, 910 Turbo & HR31 GTS in the '80's. Plus the BNR32 in the early '90's.

Anyone with evidence to expand on that is more than welcome to present it!

1974 James Hardie Bathurst 1000, Datsun 240K came 7th overall and was driven by Doug Whiteford who raced many a Datsun.

And sorry, please tell me why it would have been beaten by a stock 120Y???
