Posted October 31, 200321 yr comment_55365 Is this all I need to know in order to ID my 5spd tranny and get the right parts for it when I decide to go through it and give it all the TLC it deserves:"So:0.745 x 360 = 268.2 degrees (1981-thru 1983) = 8:45 o'clock0.773 x 360 = 278.3 degrees (1980 )_ = 9:15 o'clock0.864 x 360 = 311 degrees (1977 thru 1979) = 10:30 o'clockJust remember that the earlier the "time" the "Later" (meaning newermodel year) the box._ Before 9:00 o'clock is the 81-83 box, justafter 9:00 o'clock is the 1980 box and at 10:30 o'clock is the 77-79box."Thanks to Royce Miller and Carl Beck...Just looking for a confirmation that there's nothing else to it...-e Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8652-new-bearingsseals-for-5spd/ Share on other sites

October 31, 200321 yr comment_55399 What he is describing is how to identify the gear box by the ratio of the final drive. Put the transmission in fifth gear. Put a clutch plate on the input shaft. Mark the plate and note the mark's position, that position is known as 12 o clock. Rotate the output shaft 1 or 10 complete revolutions. Note the new position of the mark on the clutch plate and relate it to the original position like the hour hand of a clock.Ok. Now it's been a year since I did this and I can't remember whether you turn the input shaft and read the output shaft or visa-versa Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8652-new-bearingsseals-for-5spd/#findComment-55399 Share on other sites
