Posted November 2, 200321 yr comment_55543 My Z has developed a few small rust bubbles under the gas door. I thought I had the rust treated before I painted the car but alas I did not. I had hoped to avoid cutting any metal out. My question is...Does anyone make repair panels for this area other than a whole quarter panel? Is the quality any good? Not that I have much choice! Also, the panel under the hatch....yea that area...does the entire rear panel need to be replaced or is there a repair for just the area that rusts? ( the flat area across the width of the car vs. the entire tail light panel)Thanks!ROOPZ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8678-body-repair-panels/ Share on other sites
November 2, 200321 yr comment_55554 Every once in a while that panel pops up on E-Bay for about $120. I haven't checked, but you might check with either MSA, V/B or our Z sponsor here Midwest Z.The rust bubbles may or may not be rust through from the backside, they may be poor preparation on the metal that is finally popping through. The "cup" for the inside of the gas filler access is spot welded and seamed to the fender, so it is very possible to have had some moisture get caught up in the seam.Hope this helps.Enrique Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8678-body-repair-panels/#findComment-55554 Share on other sites

February 14, 200718 yr comment_199199 What about the body panel under the trim? I have a 77 280Z that the actual body and valance are rusted away. The rest of the body is ok for some reason just those two parts degenerated. February 18, 200718 yr comment_199752 Hey from what I've seen no one makes that area around the filler neck to the gas tank....Just remove the corrosion as best you can and use a filler with metal in it and some wire mesh or find the part from rust free doner .How to restore your Datsun 240z page 47....The panel from banzi motorworks is for the panel that is above the tail lights.....As for the rear light panels it think you can find them any where.. April 22, 200717 yr comment_206916 Is there a difference between the 2+2 '74 Z rear panels and the normal 2 door coupe? I've looked elsewhere on the forums and couldn't find any discussion on this! Thanks in advance, I need to change my right rear panel and a 2+2 panel has come available.Mark Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8678-body-repair-panels/#findComment-206916 Share on other sites
April 22, 200717 yr comment_206919 The compound curvature is different between the coupe and the 2+2, using one in place of the other would be noticeable. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8678-body-repair-panels/#findComment-206919 Share on other sites
