Gav240z Posted November 4, 2003 Share #13 Posted November 4, 2003 Well they look like the fattery style font which was found on later cars here in Australia.74 - 75 cars had the early style fonts on their guages. So if im write and UK spec follow same pattern as Aus spec then it's anywhere between say 76- 78.Also i have found that the later 260z's had a differenet wiring harness altogether to the earlier ones.So if you go to a wrecker you will find early guages don't fit into the wiring harness without modification.unfortunately this is not an area that I'm 100% sure of so I could be off but it would seem logical that Nissan would keep the cars pretty much the same as they did earlier on in the piece. Can anyone else help out?PS: Original Engine Number and Chassis number may help Solve I'll PM SJCURTIS and get his attention to this thread. sjcurtis Posted November 4, 2003 Share #15 Posted November 4, 2003 Hi all, this Zed is rare due to its age I would say mid 78 and sequence number is high, some points of note: 1. charge light2. engine type not serial number indicated on the data plate3. non inertial seat belts.4. no eyebrow indicator/parking lamp under the front bar,5. front bar indicatorsAny chance of letting us know the engine serial number.can you please look at the white tag on both seat belts as you may be able to give us a production date from them.can you also tell us which county you are in and what is the nearest city. Thanks Gav240zcheersSteve:classic:
thebarracuda Posted November 4, 2003 Author Share #16 Posted November 4, 2003 2. engine type not serial number indicated on the data plate the serial number is stamped on the plate, but it looks like it was pressed into it. its hard to raed but its there.where would i find the engine serial number? I've looked all over with no luck.I'll go grap pictures of the seatbelt.if it makes any difference, all of my windows have a nissan stamp on them.more pictures here
sjcurtis Posted November 4, 2003 Share #17 Posted November 4, 2003 With this Zed I think you should look at the engine. The engine number is found on the right hand side of the engine. Below number six spark plug you will see a flat surface on the engine block witht the numbers stamped or ground in in this case it should start off L26 - XXXXXXX the X represents the serial number. You may need a torch and a clean rag to see the serial number clearly. The serial number on the plate will be your body number, this number is also on the firewall at the rear of the engine bay above the brake master cylinder, sometimes hidden by wiring and washer tube. worth a check to see what is stamped there. kyteler Posted November 4, 2003 Share #18 Posted November 4, 2003 The engine number should be stamped on a small flat piece of the block located near the number 5 cylinder, almost directly below the plug for 5, digits are roughly 10mm high. well, that's where it is on mine, correct me if I'm wrong people. Edit: Looks like I got beaten to the punch.

abas Posted November 4, 2003 Share #20 Posted November 4, 2003 the barracudaI am assuming you bought the car with a V5 (blue regsitered title form you get from the UK DVLA). You can apply for one if you don't have it. It should give a date of first registration and 'normally' (although not always) this is a couple of months or so after the production date. Does the registration end in an R, S or a T?. This gives the year in which it was registered.Gav 240z is correct in that no UK cars have the production plate on the door panel.all the best
thebarracuda Posted November 4, 2003 Author Share #21 Posted November 4, 2003 says 01 09 1978 on the DVLA.I'm just checking to make certain. it looks like an engine swap occures sometime ago. numbers don't match up.
abas Posted November 4, 2003 Share #22 Posted November 4, 2003 ChadSept 1978 is an early 'T' reg plate. This registration ususally stays with the car for its whole life whilst in the UK. Changes of engine don't affect this. From this I would say that the production date for your car is likely to be June/July 1978. I don't know what model year that makes it. I'd be interested if anyone else comes up with a different date.If the engine shown on the DVLA V5 is different from the engine in the car then the DVLA number will probably be the original (no-one ever tells the DVLA if they change an engine in a car!!) this might give a more accurate indication of production date.Hope it helpsAndrewB
thebarracuda Posted November 4, 2003 Author Share #23 Posted November 4, 2003 yeah, it is a T reg. Well, thanks. I've posted the same stuff in 3 different forums and mosty people agree that its a '78 just like the paperwork says.now my biggest problem is in ordering parts... I'll work that out when I bring her back to the states. I've just got to get her up to code enough that they don't cry about rust or anything else.I better look into that before its too late.
