o.k. guys, this is pretty much wide open. i'm really new to the Z-car thing so i don't have alot of experience with what mods these cars like and what to watch out for. what i can tell you right now is the car is a nearly stock '73. it will be modified for track events so cornering/braking will be of utmost importance.

i'm planning on running a DOT 'R' compound tire like the kuhmo v700 or g-force KD, about a 245-45-17-ish. find some front disc in the 11-12" range and maybe run some wilwoods. i have no idea what to do about struts and anti-sway bars though.

have at it.

Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustable Strut cartridges are considered very good for these cars. There are other coices also, such as Koni struts. A wide varienty of Suspension bits are available from www.ground-control.com including springs, sway bars, adjustable coil-over kits, adjustable camber and caster kits. Many folks replace the rubber bushings with Polyurethane bushings and/or switch to an adjustable coil over spring set up. Suspension Techniques is another place that offers bushings, springs, and sway bar kits for 240Z's.

do you have to modify the strut housing to fit these adjustable coilovers?

Having never done this, I'm probably not the best one to answer, but...........my understanding is that the strut housing needs to be sectioned (shortened) and the coil-over spring perch must be welded onto the housing.

2ManyZs, you can chime in anytime as I'm sure you know more about this than I do :D

Err, how bout I just refer to a tech article on the subject?

BTW, I have cleaned out the Tech Articles forum of all the incorrectly posted threads, so anything left is an article that may help answer more than one question.

I know, sometimes I forget to look in there too.....:stupid:

Finally! That Forum has needed a good cleaning for a LOOOOONG time. Thanks.

Just one comment, on your proposed tyres. My experience is that the DOT R type are not particularly suitable for everyday road use. Most do not cope with wet roads well, at least some tend to 'tramline' ie follow slight ridges or indented lines in the road surface.

So, two sets of wheels is a good idea, one set shod with ordinary road tyres for everyday use, the other with the race tyres to drive to and from track events if you don't have any other way of getting them there.
