Travel to Australia

Oh okay gotcha. I just misunderstood the right country part. hehe when dealing with people on a board that is split from the two countries it gets a little confusing sometimes.

Altough I am getting some random Aussie lingo as I have been reading on here for a year or so now (only been posting a few monbths though)

Fortunately, I was from the nice part of the burbs - we were all too scared to go near that bloody Waterloo area even if our names weren't Napoleon.

My stomping ground at my tender age was around Harold Park, Forest Lodge and Annandale before moving out west to the mountains.

Number 2 son has now moved to the area and it is great to go back there and visit him and relive the old stomping ground.

Just recently read a good book written by a yank named of Bill Bryson called Down Under. It is about his adventures of travellling around Oz and comparing the differences with both countries. Might be worth a read to kill some of the waiting for the trip to start. It's easy reading too with a sense of homour thrown in.:classic:

My family and I spent a week in Kirra Beach in April. My kids were out of school for spring break. We took a drive to Byron Bay, where I came across a neat 240Z, see the attached photo. Anybody recognize it? Does it belong to anyone on the site?

With all the surf shops near our hotel I thought I'd find a new tie-dye t-shirt for myself. However, none of the shops had any. I spoke with the proprieter of one shop who recommended that I go to Nimbin, he seemed sure I'd find one there, but he wouldn't offer anymore information on Nimbin, just said I would either thank him or hit him... While in Byron Bay I noticed a sign advertizing a bus trip to Nimbin, but didn't have time to make the journey, so no new tie-dye for me.

A few inquiries revealed that Nimbin is a hippie kind of town, a relic of the '60's. One person said it's a good place to get wacky backy. Never touch the stuff myself, but everyone I asked was sure they have tie-dye t-shirts there. I guess I'll just have to visit again and take the bus to Nimbin...

kenz240Z,

It's a shame you missed out on Nimbin mate, it's a real eye opener. It's a town where time seems to have stood still, time warped to stay in the 60's.

You certainly would have bought tie dyed T shirts and as for wacky weed, well, I've seen it smoked openly there. You don't have to see it smoked, you can SMELL it.

Every now and then the locals petition the pollys to legalise the weed but so far they've been unsuccessful.

Biker,

So, me old china plate, you hung around on the RIGHT side of the tracks, huh.

My stomping grounds were Redfern, Surry Hills, Alexandria and Newtown.

I don't understand why you were so shy of Waterloo though. Outsiders were always welcomed with open arms.

Rick.

At the end of the open arms were closed fists!!!! so i am told.

Redfern Ugh!! Worked at the Railway yards for a few years and that was tough stuff. You had to pick your pub around there. Have fond memories of the old RSL near the station.

Don't recognise the Zed in the photo. Bad luck you missed Nimbin. The bloke who advised you was right, after visiting there you would thank him or hit him.

It is one of life's mysteries in that area as 1 Bravo said. Once took my young bloke for a ride on the bike one Sunday. They had the country fair on one side of the road and the hippy market on the other side, a real eye opener. It was like walking from out of the new millenium into the 40's with a quick skip over to the 60's.

The only problem with Nimbin is that the ferals and the rat people have spoiled it. Even the hippies don;t like them

Biker:cry:
