Posted November 7, 200321 yr comment_56181 Just a quick start to a new topic of conversation.I currently own two Prince Skyline 2000GT's (My father also owns 2 - but has owned 6). A relatively rare car which started the Skyline family of cars (before Nissan bought Prince Motor Company out). I know of about 35 - 40 cars in Australia and approximately another 10 or so in New Zealand. The Prince Skyline 2000GT was quite a little performer in it's hey-day with a SOHC 2L straight six with triple 40DCOE webers putting out 127bhp they are a fun car to drive. The car actually raced throughout Japan and in particular races here in Australia. In fact Prince Skyline's actually filled places 2nd - 6th in the 1964 Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka behind a Porsche Carrera GTS 904 with the Skylines swapping the lead with the Porsche throughout the race and a Skyline actually getting the quickest lap time of the day.An interesting car - have a look at a pic of one of my cars. November 8, 200321 yr comment_56258 Welcome! Most of the talk about Princes' & the early Nissan Skylines has been of the 'we want one' category. Glad you can join us, and with such an impressive collection too! Welcome! It will be good to have you around. Lovely cars in your pics. I'm a big fan of Prince Motor Co. ( P.M.C ) products. The GT-II race ( 1000cc~2000cc class ) of the 1964 Japanese Grand Prix was a landmark in Prince and Skyline history, and this history was inherited by Nissan when they absorbed Prince in the late Sixties. They still make advertising and PR use of the Skyline's giant-worrying exploits in that race, although there was a little more to it than initially meets the eye............The Porsche 904 GTS ( driven by Sokichi Shikiba ) had actually been lightly crashed prior to the race. It had been repaired but it was still suffering from ill-handling and funny steering come race day. Shikiba was nursing it for most of the race, and trying to make sure that it got to the finish. His slower than usual pace allowed the Skylines to harry him, and the no.41 car of Yoshikazu Sunako diced with him throughout - making great pictures and film for Prince to use in advertising!Shikiba finished ahead of the Skyline of Sunako, with the final position on the podium being taken by Tetsu Ikuzawa - one of Japan's most renowned racers of the Sixties. There were four more GTB's behind them.Shikiba formed "RACING MATE" - a company supplying drivers accessories and clothing - back in the Sixties, and now occasionally works as a car tester / journalist for a Japanese car magazine called "Engine", which I freelance for. He has promised to tell me the "true" story of the race one day, so I presume there is even more to it than we already know................ All the best,Alan T. November 8, 200321 yr Author comment_56279 There are quite a few Princes throughout NSW and i know of a few in WA but the bulk are in Victoria - which is where i am. Prince Skylines were built from 1964 (late '63) - 1967 (early '68). Anyone else out there know of the whereabouts of any of these little hotties. Here's A pic for you Alfadog of a Japanese museum KPGC110 - neat old car these ones too - i also hope to buy a 240k coupe one day and GTR it. Yours looks to be in super nick. Congrats.... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8761-prince-skyline-fans/#findComment-56279 Share on other sites
November 8, 200321 yr comment_56280 Hmm... I'd really hope to own one one day. Or a Clipper. Clipper would be cool! Thanks for that pic! I have the same pic except in a smaller size, great to have one showing some DETAIL. The KPGC110 was a strange oddball of a Skyline wasn't it? I'm actually currently turning mine (with some help from the incredibly knowledgeable Alan T (yeah that guy up there /\)) into a GT-R replica ... one day I hope to have a really period car...Any more pics of you and your fathers cars would be awesome. It's very hard to find good pics of these cars on the Internet.
