mmagnus Posted November 11, 2003 Share #1 Posted November 11, 2003 I want to upgrade to a pair of 16 inch wheels. The wheels I am looking at have a 40 offset and 7inch wide. Does anyone have a similar setup? I am concerned that I would have rubbing. I have a 240Z with Tokico springs and Alumina shocks. 2ManyZs Posted November 11, 2003 Share #2 Posted November 11, 2003 I think 40mm offset, whether positive or negative is gonna be a bit much.If it's positive offset, I have a feeling you are going to have to run a wheel spacer, and if it's negative, you might run into fender clearance problems.I've got a set of 15x8's that have a similar positive offset, and with a 195/65 tire on them they only clear the spring by about a 1/4 inch.The closer you can get to a zero offset the better off you'll be in terms of clearance and tire choices. I redid my suspension/wheels about 10 yrs ago, going to the setup illustrated in my gallery at: <http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=2337&size=big&password=&sort=2&thecat=500>. These are 15x7, zero offset Panasport rims, with Good Year GS-C tires, 225/50x15. We trimmed out the fill rubber at the top of the shock towers to lower the profile without reducing suspension travel. I have Eibach progressive resistance springs with KYB gas shocks. The only mods were to roll the metal lip on the rear fenders to eliminate tire rub.But now I'm redoing it again. This time 16x8 Panasport C8's (4-3/4" backspace), and I'm considering Bridgestone Potenza S-03s size 245/45x16. New shocks and coilovers will take up less space on the inside thus the positive offset.Food for thought... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
