thump240z Posted November 13, 2003 Share #1 Posted November 13, 2003 How can I shut this electric fuel pump up from buzzing in my ear. I have no stereo and this noise is really irritating. Its mounted in the back under the car. Im not sure if this is where it goes but I bought it like that.
tanny Posted November 13, 2003 Share #2 Posted November 13, 2003 The stock electric pumps are definitely noisy. I don't know if aftermarket pumps are quieter(I assume they would be). You probably would have to fashion your own mount. I didn't bother with mine because I can't really hear it when at cruising speed. Victor. Ed Posted November 13, 2003 Share #3 Posted November 13, 2003 I had my electric fuel pump disconnected and ran only on the mechanical. No problems.
ZmeFly Posted November 13, 2003 Share #4 Posted November 13, 2003 on my 240's, now on the ZXT it is loud as hell hehe, but when your pumping 70gph@125 psi I guess it should be.
240ZX Posted November 13, 2003 Share #5 Posted November 13, 2003 You might want to think about mounting the fuel pump with shock mount pads. It worked for me. Also, I went from a diaphram type pump to a gear driven pump. Instead of a thump, thump, thump, I now have a whirrrrrrrrrr. With the isolation pads I only hear the pump just before ignition, then I hear only the sweet music of my SU'ed L28.
beandip Posted November 19, 2003 Share #6 Posted November 19, 2003 thumper , if you want a quiet pump and dont want to spend $135. go to a u pull it and find a RX-7 that is carberated '80 I believe is one , any way as long as it is NOT injected. They are quiet and will pump all the fuel you need and the right pressure and about $15.00 . I have been running one for over a year and have a spair. :classic:
