Japanese Domestic Market

It seems that Ive gotten some mixed reviews of the recent pictures that Ive posted in the member galleries. Some like, some dislike.

Im wondering if I should even post the other 20 pics that I have.

Dont want to start a problem, I just love all the older style japanese cars, and its something that we dont or didnt have here in the states.

Me personally I love most cars, just wanted to point out the difference in that era of styling with different japanese car makers and well some cars that I really like.

Tell me what you guys think, Im only trying to share the wealth.:ermm:

Hi ZmeFly,

Its always good to see pics of Japanese events / meets, but I'm wondering about the origin of your uploads and what event / events they depict.

The location of the latest uploads looks very much like Sagamiko Picnic Land ( a very popular place to host car-related events ) and judging from the amount of cherry blossom on the trees it would seem to have taken place around the month of March?

Are these pictures that you have downloaded from the Web? If they are, then you might need to be a little cautious about just where they came from, and make sure that they were not originally covered by the Copyright of the site that they came from. They usually are.

I notice that the numberplates of most of the cars have been obscured / photoshopped. This would point to their origin as a Japanese site, and is common practice in line with Japanese privacy laws.

When I was at the Club S30 / S30 Owners Club combined meeting at Sagamiko a couple of weeks ago, I was asked by more than one person about the photographs on this site. You might be surprised to know that there are a lot of Japanese visitors to this site, and that word spreads very quickly. Most of these visitors do not post here, but they drop in fairly often.

One of the comments I heard was with regard to pictures on this ( and other ) sites being downloads from other sites. In many cases it seems that copyright is being infringed without knowledge / intention.

In particular, it seems that the use of some of these pics as Avatars is confusing to the owners of the original photos. One comment made to me was to question why anybody would want to use the image of somebody else's car as their Avatar image. To the person who made the comment to me, it seems that this was seen as particularly strange. I think the inference was that this could be seen as disturbing to the owner of the original image.

I can kind of see where he's coming from. I've noticed some of my pictures being used on other sites, and a couple of times I even saw a pic of my own car being used by a member for their own Avatar image. It felt very odd. Like I'd had my car stolen!

Whilst its great to see pics like yours, and I applaud your broadminded view, I would advise caution to check on their origin and copyright status before uploading here. If they are pics that you have taken yourself, then this would not be a problem.

This site too has a copyright notice at the bottom of almost every page, and most of our Gallery pictures automatically have the site logo applied to them. It must be very strange for the owners of orginal images to see those selfsame images posted up here with our site logo and copyright applied to them...............

Please don't take this the wrong way. I'm just trying to advise a little caution and point out that the Web is a small world when it comes to a common interest. Things we do and say here are easily seen all around the world, and its worth being careful.

Best regards,

Alan T.

Alan I believe I am guilty of uploading images that may or may not be copyrighted. I admit though it can be hard to know when you visit an all japanese site and cant read anything.

To Zmefly i know i bagged the Rx7 but that was more or less just a joke , i too enjoy looking at the old jdm cars but i agree it might help to label them a bit better I know i've been a bit slack too sometimes.

Just my thought.

I have asked that these pics be removed as I dont want the site getting into any kind of trouble from me.

I had checked into it and those few pics are copyright protected.

Also you were dead on about the location of the pics, they were from an event that was at Sagamiko, it does look very beautiful though, a perfect setting for a car show.

Thanks for making me pay more attention and looking into those pics.

I hope all that had a chance to see them enjoyed them while they were here.

If anyone else wishes to view those or more I can point you to the site from where they came.

Thanks again Alan for the heads up.

Most copyright laws will state that the owner of the copyright of the photo belongs to the photographer.

Alan who ownes the rights to your photos, you or Mike?

Just because they uploaded them to a website (this one or any other one) doesn't transfer the ownership of the photo to the website. Think about it. This website doesnt own the copyright to the photos I have taken of my car. Nor would the other site, unless the photographer was employed to take photos of the cars on behalf of the website.

The owner(s) of the photographs by uploading them and making them available for all to see, view and download, presumably doesnt mind other people doing this or they wouldnt have uploaded them in the first place.

It is not wise to "Presume" when legal matters are concerned. A photographer may authorize use of a photgraph in a certain context or setting, he/she may authorize a certain person, company, or website to use the photograph; yet still retain the ownership of that photograph and have control over it's usage in any other situation.

IMHO, It's best to err on the side of caution in cases like this.

I talked to the owner of the site via the internet. His name is Nuyen if Im spelling it correctly from memory, really nice guy. Hes a Toyota GX71 fan.

He didnt mind but rather would like people to come visit his site, reason for putting it on the web to view his pics.

I told him of our site he said he would take a visit. He also pointed me to some links of pics that I could dl here of some really nice Z's.

what was funny is one of the sites that he pointed me to had the west coast nationals posted on it. He has a laugh as he said he didnt understand the reasoning behind some of the American modifications, then pointed me out to the pic of the 4x4 260Z.

Great guy to talk to. Well Ill have some more pics to dl later.
