Mateo Posted November 16, 2003 Share #1 Posted November 16, 2003 Hello ClassicZ forum members,My name is Matt, new here, just turned 16 and just got this black 72' 240Z for $3000. The previous owner worked at a body shop and just painted the outside of the car and looks gorgeous(sucking me in to buy it because it looked so nice outside), but the interior after looking under soaking floor mats(floor pan rust of course) is lime green:( I want to match the color of the outside of the car or just get rid of the lime green altogether. Ive started striping the car totally. This is my first project car and right now Im focused on just getting the rust out and cleaning it Today I took out the seats, carpet, body panels, etc. I was wondering how to get off the rubber or whatever it is off the floor pans? Anything on what to look out for or tips to ease things out of place? Also what are some good links on how to stip down the car and build it back up? Or any info on restoring a Z car?ThanksMatt
JEFF Posted November 16, 2003 Share #2 Posted November 16, 2003 I used a flat putty knife to scrape/lift the tarmat off of the floor. It came off easy - especialy where it was rusty under it.- Jeff
Smokey Posted November 17, 2003 Share #3 Posted November 17, 2003 Word of caution. That wonderful black paint job that "sucked you in" might be covering up all kinds of stuff. Be sure you go over the car and check for bondo. Look for any waves in the paint. It is an old trick for body men to give up on a project and spread some mud on bad spots, paint it purdy and sell it to someone that is unsuspecting. In my hunt for a Z I find myself shying away from anything that has been painted in the last year. That should give time for any problem areas to pop back up.
seerex Posted November 17, 2003 Share #4 Posted November 17, 2003 the green you refer to is code 112 , I also would look at every body panel for lines or waves or just use a magnet with a coating or a thin towel to avoid scratching your finish , with black paint you should see alot of the flaws if there are any in a bright daylight from the side , good luck , by the way the Lime green looks pretty good on Z's
