Solex Locks?

260Zed,

Have had no experience with the Solex brand but most tubular type locks are of pretty good quality, so they should last. Other than that they do the same thing as any other pin type lock, except the pins on a tubular lock are oriented in the axial plane as opposed to the vertical plane in your standard type pin tumbler locks. You should be really confused now!!! The good part is that most people think these type of lock cylinders are SPECIAL and they will usually avoid trying to f_ _k with them (using a screw driver).......this is a good thing. Also, the tubular type lock is harder to pick open. Are you going to install these on the Z doors?

Datto-Zed,

If the lock fits properly in the original lock cylinder hole and can be secured, that will solve one issue. However, the problem will be getting the tail piece (the lever arm part on the end of the lock cylinder that does the actuation when you turn the key) of the new lock to work with the Z locking linkage. If you can work this out you will likely be the first guy to have tubular locks on your Z. Good luck and let us all know how it turns out!

Well.....I've just made a new slightly longer locking rod for my drivers door as the lock wasn't locking, only unlocking. As long as the lever arm is of the correct length it should be ok. By the looks those solex locks come with a whole bunch of them of different lengths. So with a bit of mucking around it should be possible. :)

AFAIK, solex locks dont do a pushbutton system like the Z hatch needs, so you could probably do the doors, but not the hatch. Solex locks are good but watch out when installing them, if you get it wrong, you need to take a drill to them to fix em.

Cheers Chris

Installed this type of locks on my 70 Z in 94 have had no problems with them. Back then the only ones aval were for the doors. Something I noticed with mind was that you could not lock and unlock from inside the car. Had to use the key for this. Bought them from a motorsport shop in Hawaii.
