Posted November 18, 200321 yr comment_57454 Anybody had any experience with solex locks? They are a tubular/cylinder type lock. Similar to the club lock thingies. I'm interested because of thier almost immune to the "screwdriver" attack. Any thoughts?http://www.noelsautoparts.com.au/pics/Nice%20Products/solex_m_big.jpg Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8936-solex-locks/ Share on other sites
November 18, 200321 yr comment_57462 I don't know anymore details, but I'm deffinantly interested.I've finally got my drivers door/door lock working well today after weeks of playing around with it. The lock cylinder is pretty bloody worn though. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8936-solex-locks/#findComment-57462 Share on other sites
November 19, 200321 yr comment_57693 260Zed,Have had no experience with the Solex brand but most tubular type locks are of pretty good quality, so they should last. Other than that they do the same thing as any other pin type lock, except the pins on a tubular lock are oriented in the axial plane as opposed to the vertical plane in your standard type pin tumbler locks. You should be really confused now!!! The good part is that most people think these type of lock cylinders are SPECIAL and they will usually avoid trying to f_ _k with them (using a screw driver).......this is a good thing. Also, the tubular type lock is harder to pick open. Are you going to install these on the Z doors? November 19, 200321 yr comment_57694 Would there be any problem fitting them to the zed doors? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8936-solex-locks/#findComment-57694 Share on other sites
November 19, 200321 yr comment_57698 Datto-Zed, If the lock fits properly in the original lock cylinder hole and can be secured, that will solve one issue. However, the problem will be getting the tail piece (the lever arm part on the end of the lock cylinder that does the actuation when you turn the key) of the new lock to work with the Z locking linkage. If you can work this out you will likely be the first guy to have tubular locks on your Z. Good luck and let us all know how it turns out! November 19, 200321 yr comment_57702 Well.....I've just made a new slightly longer locking rod for my drivers door as the lock wasn't locking, only unlocking. As long as the lever arm is of the correct length it should be ok. By the looks those solex locks come with a whole bunch of them of different lengths. So with a bit of mucking around it should be possible. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8936-solex-locks/#findComment-57702 Share on other sites
November 20, 200321 yr comment_57750 classic datsun motorsports fitted solex locks on a fj20 powered BRE-ish 510 project. If they fit the 510, they gotta fit the Z.... right? November 20, 200321 yr comment_57777 AFAIK, solex locks dont do a pushbutton system like the Z hatch needs, so you could probably do the doors, but not the hatch. Solex locks are good but watch out when installing them, if you get it wrong, you need to take a drill to them to fix em.Cheers Chris Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8936-solex-locks/#findComment-57777 Share on other sites
November 20, 200321 yr comment_57780 Who does make replacement locks, including on for the hatch? What in particular should we look out for when replacing them? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8936-solex-locks/#findComment-57780 Share on other sites
November 20, 200321 yr comment_57782 I've got a key that opens 3 dattos and 2 toyotas, sure solex locks would stamp this out but just remember its a cam operated lock like your original so it won't stop a thief with a coat hanger. :dead: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8936-solex-locks/#findComment-57782 Share on other sites
November 20, 200321 yr comment_57783 Hence my zed has an alarm as of 3 days ago. Has anyone ever managed to fit central locking in their zed doors? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8936-solex-locks/#findComment-57783 Share on other sites
November 20, 200321 yr comment_57810 Installed this type of locks on my 70 Z in 94 have had no problems with them. Back then the only ones aval were for the doors. Something I noticed with mind was that you could not lock and unlock from inside the car. Had to use the key for this. Bought them from a motorsport shop in Hawaii.
